Verb (មាន ) as a Modal Verb

    The verb (មាន ) occurs in the modal verb position, it means something like 'to happen to', to have occasion (to do something)' as in  (pro-drop) language.   In some dialects mien tends to replace the modal verb baan 'to have done something, to have had occasion to do something.

        1.  Affirmative Sentence with Verb (មាន ) as a Modal Verb

                                                                     
Subject + មាន + Verb + Object

 

Example:

Affirmative Sentence with Verb (មាន ) as a Modal Verb

Subject + (មាន ) + Verb +

Object

ខ្ញុំ មាន ធា្លប់ ទៅលេងភ្នំពេញ។
I have had occasion to visit Phnom Penh or I have visited Phnom Penh.
យើង មាន ស្គាល់ កន្លែងច្រើន។
We have known many places or I have knowledge of many places.
គាត់ មាន ធ្លាប់ ទៅអាស្រុកខ្មែរ។
He has had occasion to visit Cambodia or He has visited Cambodia.
ខ្ញុំ មាន ដឹង កន្លែងលក់ឡានច្រើន។
I have known many car dealers.
ពួកគេ មាន រៀន ខ្មែរបន្ដិចបន្ដួច។
They have studies some Khmer or They are happen to study some khmer.

        2.  Negative Sentence with Verb (មាន ) as a Modal Verb

                                                                         
Subject + មិន + មាន + Verb + Object + ទេ

 

Example:

Subject + មិន + (មាន ) + Verb +

Object

ទេ។

ខ្ញុំ មិន មាន ធា្លប់ ទៅលេងភ្នំពេញ

ទេ។

ទេ។
