She felt so sorry for all the
passengers meeting their death in such an unfortunate way. But she was
also thankful that Mister The Lieutenant had taken
her children and herself off the death list.
After this accident, Mister The Lieutenant was
roundly criticized and later court-martialed because many of the people who had died were
not on the manifest. Thongsy and her children had been spared despite the fact that their
names were on the list. She knew then that five hundred kip could not buy death.
