Vat (temple) Choum Khong or Monastery of the Core of the Gong: (coll. Bounthieng) |
hi |
Vat Choum Khong was built by the venerable Keo in 1843, during the reign of King Soukhaseum. Its name was derived from the Vat's statue which, as the legend goes, was melted and cast from a bronze gong. In the classic style, this temple features a triple nave with four bays and a single porch. Before its restoration, it had only a single mullioned window. Since then, it has been restored several times (1933, 1951, 1963), and now boasts of seven irregularly spaced windows and three porch doors. |
