I am Dr. Wajuppa Tosso, an associate professor of English and American Literature at Mahasarakham University (formerly Srinakharinwirot University, Mahasarakham) in Thailand.I teach at the Western Languages and Linguistics Department. In 1991-92, grants from Fulbright,  the Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry, and the Association for Asian Studies enable to translated three Isan verse stories, to give lectures, and to teach Thai Literature in Translation at Drew University, the University of Hawaii, and the University of Oregon.  Bucknell University Press published my translation of Phadaeng Nang Ai, A Translation of the Thai-Isan Folk Epic in Verse in 1990 and Phya Khankhaak, the Toad King: A Translation of an Isan Fertility Myth in Verse in 1996.  During 1994-1995, I was a visiting professor in Thai Literature at the University of Oregon, sponsored by a grant from the Ford Foundation.  

In 1998-1999, I received my second Fulbright Visiting Scholar grant to share Thai/Lao stories in the Pacific Northwest, the Eastcoast, and Hawaii. In 2001, I was a visiting scholar at the Center for SEA Studies at NIU, creating a Lao folklore course on www.seasite.niu.edu. I have completed three more works of translation, Kamphra Phinoi (the Orphan and the Little Ghost) and Kaew Na Ma (Horse-faced Kaew, a Woman Warrior. Sithon Manora (Prince Sithon and Princess Manora) is her joint effort with Dr. Marilyn Berg Callander in translating the folk epic into poetic prose. She is now locating appropriate publishers to publish her works.
