SEEING
SOUTHEAST ASIA
THROUGH FILM and MEDIA
The new Southeast Asia in Film course presents a sampling of films from different Southeast Asian countries: Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Burma and Malaysia. ILAS 490/590 will explore the different cultural, historical, political and sociolinguistic issues in Southeast Asia from the perspectives of various foreign and national film makers. Various themes (e.g. colonialism, meaning of traditions, community life, national identity, political struggles, and role of women) will also be explored.
TIME: Tuesday and Thursdays, 3 to 4:30
