PREFIX BER-

There are two types of verbs with the ber- prefix; those formed by adding the ber- prefix to a noun, and adding the ber- prefix to a root verb.

When the ber- prefix attached to a verb root the resulting verb is a reflexsive verb.

These are list of example for adding ber- to the root.

belanja berbelanja "shop"
bicara berbicara "talk, speak"
kumpul berkumpul "gather together"
tanya bertanya

"ask"
henti berhenti "stop"
nama bernama "having the name"
umur berumur "having the age of"
sepeda bersepeda "to go by bicycle"
jalan berjalan "walk"
sekolah bersekolah "attend school, study"

1. Kalau Anda tidak mengerti, Anda bisa bertanya kepada ibu dosen.
    If you don't understand, you may ask the (female university) teacher.

2. Hasan bersekolah di SMA Negeri di kota Surabaya.
    Hasan attends school at SMA Negeri (state high school) in the city of Surabaya.

3. Anjing saya bernama "Bleki" dan dia berumur dua tahun.
    My dog has a name "Bleki" and he is two years old.

4. Ibu Sumirat bekerja di sebuah rumah sakit tidak jauh dari rumahnya.
    Ibu Sumirat works at a hospital not far from her house.
