Airport Transportations

Direct public transportation is not available between Chicago and DeKalb, IL or the Chicago Airports and Northern Illinois University.  If possible, we advise that you take O'hare Airport instead of Midway.  The ICLS committee has come up with four ways for our participants to travel between the conference and the airport (s).

3. Rental Car

4. If you are a conference presenter, a voluntarily pick-up and drop-off might be available. See #4 below for details.

After arrival at O’Hare, claim your luggage and telephone toll free number provided above so that the pre-arranged car and driver will come from the limousine waiting area to get you within approximately 10 minutes. Banks of telephones are available in the baggage claim area. The limousine service monitors all flights so that there is no need to contact them in case your flight is delayed - even for international flights. Allow one hour and fifteen minutes for the trip.  Suggestion: Keep this sheet of information with your airplane ticket.

2. NIU Airport Shuttle: Available only for O'hare Airport

Northern Illinois University will provide transportation to DeKalb in a university vehicle for a modest fee from O’Hare Airport on Thursday, May 19 and Friday, May 20.

The vehicle pickup time from O'Hare will be on:

Thursday, May 19 at 7:00 pm

Friday, May 20 at 10:00 am

The vehicle pickup point is at International Terminal 5, Lower Level, International Arrivals, Door "E". Door "E" is located across from the McDonalds' restaurant on the lower level.  PLEASE NOTE: The International Terminal is separate from Domestic Terminals 1, 2, and 3 and the Airport Transit System (ATS) is the only means of transport between the two terminals. The O'Hare pick up point is the same for ALL pickups at O'Hare airport.

If you are arriving at Midway Airport, there is public transportation to O’Hare for minimal fee.  Coach USA Wisconsin offers hourly service between O'Hare International and Midway Airports from 8 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Allow at least 1 hour for travel time between O'Hare International and Midway Airports. Pickup at Midway Airport is located at door 3 and 4 on the lower level baggage claim. The one-way fare between Midway International and O'Hare International is $12.00. Returns to O’Hare will be on:

Sunday, May 22 at 9:00 am and at 2:00 pm

Pick up for returns to O’Hare will be at the Holmes Student Center, Carroll Avenue entrance. It takes approximately 1 ½ hours to get to O’Hare Airport from DeKalb. Returns to O'Hare will drop off people at each terminal (1, 2, 3 and 5).

Cost for Shuttle between NIU and O'Hare Airport:  $25 each way.  Space on the NIU shuttle is by advanced reservation and pre-payment only and non-refundable.

NOTE: If you have registered already you may make a request for NIU shuttle by sending an email to: outreachregistration@niu.edu or call 1-800-345-9472. Do not re-register.

3. Car Rental: Available for both O’Hare and Midway Airports, but please check with the car rental company to make sure.

4. Voluntarily Services: Available only for O'hare Airport

We have a couple of volunteers who will be able to pick-up and drop-off conference presenters, however this is limited to the availability of our drivers and the time of your arrival and departure.  If you are not presenting a paper at the conference we advise that you sought out one of the three options above.  If  you are a presenter and would like to be considered for this option, please email Laty Keodouangsy at: laty007@yahoo.com with the following information:
