Commonly used until the beginning of the century, elongated silver bars, flattered and rounded at the ends, were covered with anthropomorphic and animal motifs made with drops of ant juice. This formic acid applied with a straw to the hot metal guaranteed the quality of the silver. (Pavie, 1887) |
