*Luang Prabang is spelled as both Luongphrabang and Luongphabang on the 1999 Administrative Map of Lao PDR, printed by the National Geographic Department.  The 1995 population census, published by the State Planning Committee in 1997, spells it Luangphrabang.  It is   pronounced Luang Phabang by most Lao speakers, a reflections of its modern Lao Spelling, ຫລວງພະບາງ.
