Ate Rhoda, I enjoyed learning tagalog under your guidance. Thank you for helping me understand my native tongue!
PSA President, J.Vincent Syfu
Wow! What a cool web page! But are you a "his" or a "her"? :)
napakabuti! This is a very good website! Ate Rhoda and Ate Sheila should get a much needed cash reward for this! This site is so good, that NIU won't need a Tagalog course any more, we could all learn off of this website. But, what about a link page to Filipino interests? -ang bakla ;-)
Ano ba ang tunay? Filipino o Pilipino? Filipino language is correct. Filipino thus is an adjective. Ano ang Pilipino? The people or the language? But we say the Filipinos as well.
Just a thought that is bugging me. Isang kaisipan na ini-insekto ako. "bug". He ! He! this is for you Shiela.
By the way, good job!!! My kudos to all of you Rhoda, Shiela, Noel and R. Ong too?
Jerry
This is a very well designed page. Ang galing, kung sino man ang gumawa, taas ang kamay ko sa'yo nakakabilib. Keep it up! Nina

I want to learn to speak tagalog. How do I register with this site to help me learn, take the quizes etc.
Is this site for me? You should develope a mailing list that has a "word"/"phrase of the day". You may have many subscribers and I would be one.
Don Fauver Balut01@AOL.COM
Wow- this is a really nice web site.....I can't believe that there's a web site for just about anything, even a Tagalog web site...Anywaz...it looks really good...and I know I'll be visiting it often..

Very nice site!! great place for people who wants to learn tagalog.
Greetings matts.berggren@swipnet.se
Thank you for creating this web site! I am learning Tagalog on my own and this site will be of immense help in speeding up my learning process.
Franklin
Outstanding sight. I have seen most of what is out there for Tagalog learners. Your time to create such a sight is a true credit to you and all involved. I hope you continue on the stucture you have developed. This will be the place to come! Thanks, Tagalog learner. j082002@hotmail.com
if anyone can give me the dictionary meaning of kabataan, i would really appreciate it. just e-mail it to tcord@hotmail.com. thanks!
I would like to see more information added to your web-site like the actual number of Tagalog speakers - and a more in depth look at the phonology of the language.
this website is for people who are interested to learn about the basics of Tagalog language, not necessarily a book where one could expect an "in-depth" analysis of Tagalog phonology; the immediately preceding comment indicates that the person wants to substitute the internet for a serious library work! hello!
Maganda itong webpage na ginawa ninyo. Paki-tignan lang ang tagalog word for estudyante sa chapter comparing Tagalog and Filipino. Hindi ba dapat "nagaaral" iyon? Adelwisa Weller, University of Michigan.
I am a begining student of tagalog and I always enjoy looking up different sites and learning what I can, but I could really use someone to talk to so that I can learn more.
Howie
I could not get this site to work, using either Netscape 3.0 or IE 4.0. The dictionary screens would load, but if I type a word and press the look-up button, nothing else happens. It looks like a cool site, though! I am interested to learn Tagalog because I have a Filipino wife.
i really like this website! they don't teach tagalog at my school, and learning on my own has been a bit difficult... thanks for the help! :)
This is a very helpful site to those who don't know Tagalog.
how do you get to your online dictionaries?
This website is very comprehensive.......Keep up the good work!
Tinitignan ko lang kung maganda kasi parang walang mga batang nag Tatagolog dito eh, diba? Maganda ang ginawa ninyo.
Thank you for this site. I beleive it is God sent! I have been Trying to learn more of the language since my visiting your country in the early 60's. Your work has been a blessing! Thank you. ddrapersr@aol.com
Very nice page! I'm learning... Can someone please tell me what mauunawaan translates into please? jetmek20@aol.com
As of yet a lot of pages seem to be under construction. No problem, but it would be better if you let the surfer know that certain parts are not yet available.
The pages which are done look fine, though. I learnt a lot.
Bart van der Griendt The Netherlands
Yes, I am impressed - the only problem I have are the astronomically high phone bills I'll get over here in Germany - is there any text book available?

Wow What a great effort you have put in so far!!! For those looking wanting to learn you are certainly doing a GREAT Service!!! I have been struggling to learn Tagalog for some years now. I can converse, but not well yet. I have always recognized a need for better learning materials. Especially an electronic form of a Tagalog dictionary. I was excited to find that you had put this one on the internet, but saddend when I found I could not get it to work for me. I will be checking back to see if it is working any better for me in the future. All the other elements of the site are superb as well. THANKS!!!! (for the effort you are putting in here) -Scott Bitton. (sbitton@usa.net) If anyone knows of a downloadable Tagalog/English word list I would appreciate letting me know. I have a program to print paper flash cards and would use it as input. I would be glad to share what I have too.
I am trying to learn more about my native tongue. Thanks for the help. I wasn't able to get into the dictionary though. Hope you get that working. I'll be back!
I am trying to determine the origin of the name of Subic Bay. Is Subic a Tagalog word or was this name given by the Spanish or Americans when the Philippines was a possession of either of thosse countries? Can anyone give an answer. If so, please reply to: doofus@lodinet.com.
Salamat muli.
Your web page has been very valuable in my goal to speak Tagalog fluently. I have many friends in the Philippines and I hope one day to speak Tagalog that everyone can understand. The dictionary is most helpful and I hope you continue to keep this site growing and strong. Thank you, Brad Daughtry
I'm very excited about this site! I'm glad both pinoys and kanos can finally have a decent tagalog tutorial. I was a graduate of the City College of San Francisco's Philippine Studies program. Nice to see more online resources for further study!
steve johnson 25 W. Roy St. #406 Seattle, WA 98119
Hi, I opened all three dictionaries. In all cases nothing happened after I entered a word and clicked lookup. Is this because the server is down? Also, can you reccomend a study Tagalog cd?
Thank you, Michael Fabrikant Mike_fabrikant@hotmail.com
Great Site! I use it all the time, and it helps me learn the language more. (I married a Filipina!) Can you put in a program also that looks up the Tagalog word for an English word? Thanks again, Steve Nichols nicholsse@eccic.com
This is really great. I still want to thank Ate Rhoda and Ate Sheila for their help :) Salamat uli! mluistro@niu.edu MariaLiza
what we americans need is a dictionary where you plug in an english word and the translation in tagalog is revealed. bo1116@aol.com
Mag-aral, matuto biagan. Mabuhay Tayo Lahat!!! An excellent Filipino homepage!
Hey, this website's really neat. About time Tagalog got some web presence. Maraming salamat po! D.Pinpin (dpinpin@yahoo.com)
Oh yeah. Here's a poser. Is it Tagalog or is it Pilipino? You see, much as I would like to see a common Philippine language, what passes for Pilipino now is (I hate to say it) really Tagalog. So how now, brown cow?
Ako gusto yun mashado marame.
The dictionaries did not appear on the screen. The introduciton on how to use them did though. Caluroso@juno.com
I think your web site is very helpful. I'm trying to learn tagalog so I can get back to my roots. Thank you for having this page. And the saying means Those who are eager are better than those who are hardworkers.
Chris from Florida
I have a desire to learn conversational tagalog. I am english and would like to spend some time in the philipines over the next few years. After browsing the web, I came across your site. thank you for placing this valuable resource online. One comment that I would make as a recommendation is that much more use should be made of audio files. Whenever a phrase, or sentence, or word is placed on your pages for tuition purposes, then an audio file giving the correct pronunciation, and a description of the word in english would improve the functionality and effectivness of your site as a tagalog training site. Thank you again.
Hey cool site, I am just a beginner, but this is helping alot. Maraming salamat po. kuya Brian
It has been a long time, since I played it, but I would like to find out if there is any written article showing how to play the filipino backyard games like Patintero, Tumbang Preso, Piko etc. I belong to Filipino organization in Phoenix, Arizona and this coming June 12 we would like to present a cultural awareness to our kids here in States and also bring back memories for old folks like me, of what we normally do after school since at that time we improvised most of our toys and do not have the convenience of going to "Toys R Us". Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
I am interested in creating a Web-based program for Hindi language instruction. What sort of software does your Tagalog Website use?
Thank you for your assistance.
Yours sincerely,
Karl J. Schmidt, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of History Missouri Southern State College
Are there plans to create webpages for other Philippine dialects? I saw https://www.bisaya.com/ but I prefer your format and style
hi sheila, darn good page you have here. yes, i've visited it before. jaguar@broline.com
I think you should be more flexible in accepting modern Tagalog words. Foreigners encounter them much more often than old Tagalog.
I have a desire to learn Tagalog. I am english with no Tagalog experience. It would help me tremendously if the english equivalent to each phrase or word could be included alongside the Tagalog. For example, the greetings section in the beginning tagalog lesson lists several greetings, the sound files are great, but I've no idea what I'm saying. Thank you for the site however - it's a great resource which I expect to be using a great deal over the next few months.....
Maraming Salamat Po! Thank you very much for creating this wonderful and very informative web site for our Kababayan here in America. I am so pleased to see how beautiful to know and to learn the Pilipino language. Salamat uli...
Wow, this is the best Tagalog site I've ever seen.
I am a Sri Lankan-Australian live in Melbourne, Australia.
But I love Philippines. Because of my best friend Lennie and other Filipino friends I am learning Tagalog. I can see there is a lot to learn from your site.
Thanks again and keep up the good work.
I have been here before and keep coming back. Every page is full of resources and I don't know where to start. I try to spend at least 30 minutes a day on this site I hope I'll be able to speak the language fluently before I startwith a new Philippines project. Most importantly I can get more closer to my friends.
Madhu Fernando, Project Manager, Ericsson Australia.
What a beautiful website you have. I certainly will add a link to it from my website. Thank you. I invite you to check out my family website at https://members.xoom.com/boyboy where I have a large collection of photos of the Philippines and the largest collection of photos of Jeepneys. Cheers!
I have really enjoyed exploring your site. I am a student of psychology and not of Filipino background. I grew up in a small southern town in rural Virginia and never had the opportunity to experience other cultures until I went away to college. My attending my university has opened me up to the Filipino culture. Last summer I started my journey into the Filipino culture by going to the local bookstore to look up anything I could on the culture and language. I was disappointed to find that books were incredibly had to come by. Living near Washington DC, I'm lucky because I have access to the world's ebassies. I figured the Filipino Embassy would be a great place to start. There I was reffered to a local language school where I enrolled in an inensive one-on-one language program. HOwever, IT WAS EXPENSIVE! But, it gave me a great grounding in the language. We used Dr. Terista V. Ramos' text, Conversational Tagalog. I thought it was a great text. Unfortunatly I had to abandon my class for personal economic reasons and to focus more on my main area of studeis. Now that it is my summer break and I have time to dedicate to my study of Filipino culture and Tagalog, I was just talking with a friend about how I wished i could find something interactive and that would get me involved. LIke magic I was browsing the web for Filipino CHildren's Books, and I found your site, Which is exactly what I needed. It even corresponds to the text I'm using! Maraming Salamat! This summer I plan to dive intensely into the language. My goal is to be much more proficient in not only my ability to speak and comprehend but my writing as well. I expect that your site will be a great help! Sincerely, Brad Blankenship jblanke1@osf1.gmu.edu
The Tagalog homepage is my favourite web site. I really enjoy learning and it's fun to read something about the Philippine Culture too. A special "salamat po" to Noel, who always answers my e-mail questions so fast. It's only a pity that people from Europe can't take part at the "Tagalog chat room". The time difference is just to big! However, congratulations to the Tagalog team and please keep on telling and learning people all over the world, about the Philippine language and culture. Many greetings from Switzerland
Beat
you havent even taught these words yet. why look them up or try to read something you never saw before. teach them first, then give us a poem to put them into.
Good site. I am attempting (slowly) to learn Tagalog right now and this site is a great help.
Now at least I can get a rough idea what my Mahal wants when she is shouting at me.
Looking forward to the English/Tagalog dictionary!

Katy, Dekalb IL- Kumusta po kayo?
I couldn't find either "still surviving"or "still alive". I looked both under "Tagalog lessons" and the other place you told us to look.
This web-site has so much information in it! It's fantasic!! I liked everything about it. The only thing I would like to see in the future would be something about modern day culture (such as the pop music, animation, movies, etc. that are popular). I hear you are going to make a dictionary that will convert english to Tagalog. That will be really neat!
your web site is very good the only thing that would make it better would be to hve an english-tagalog dictionary.
other than that it was super. i really learned a lot.
~~~~~~~~Brianna Paquette~~~~~~~~~
Your website is awesome. I want to teach my kids Tagalog. Your group efforts are to be applauded.
this was fun . but it would be more interesting if we could learn things that would be interesting to us, teenagers. they have a special site for kids, but not people in our age group. overall, the experience was fun. ~justin santos & sheena cortez~
this site is very educational and helps everyone learn their culture. visiting this site was a great experience to me, and i will visit this site to learn about southeast asia. Salamat Po for taking the time and showing us how to use this website. Thanks again sincerly, allison palisoc and calvin buado 8/12/99
The website was very fun and educational. I like the chatroom a lot.So far NIU has been really fun for me. -Kristine Buado
I also liked the chat room. You make it fun to learn our language. I think its good that you want us to know our culture and cultural backround.-Anne Quiaoit
we just wanna say that this is fun. and talking and learning more about my native tonuge was really fun. but anyway i'll visit u guys later. yeah i just wanted to say that i found it kinda annoying how you guys didn't seem to have a english-tagalog dictionary it just went the other way only.... i thought all the mutimedia stuff was cool... but i think the site could use more english for all those second generation filipinos who don't know the intricacies of the tagalog language. i needed to ask someone what Rizal's quote translated into. otherwise you guys have a great site with much potential. keep up the good work.
The trip here was really board I almost fell and I got hit in head 5 times.
Got to learn a lot about the culture of the Phillipines.
The website was really cool
tony palisoc
Napakagandang gawa! Ito ay ipapamahagi ko sa lahat ng Filipino teachers dito sa La Salle Green Hills.
Mabuhay kayong lahat ng may akda!
Wow! This page is great. I was asking my parents to teach me how to conjugate the tagalog verbs with the affixes, but they could not explain it well, but with this site, I kind of got the idea of it! Salamat po!
I am going to have my children try and learn Tagalog from you . I really enjoyed your website and I will be visiting it more often.
Deborah
I have tried to email you twice....did you change your email address??? If so could you send me your new address. west2112@webtv.net
Excellent source of information about the Philippines and its people.I would like to see it include: (1)origins of its people; (2) a bibliography or citation listing sources of the information. Pancit is the generic term for noodles. It can be classified according to the cereal used such as bihon (from rice), miki (from wheat) or sotanghon (from soy bean); or the method of cooking - luglug, guisado, Canton, Malabon, kawali, may sabaw, etc.
.
Congratulations for a very nice website! I enjoyed browsing it and I feel very great that Filipinos can do such beautiful and interesting work of art. Mabuhay!!!
Gerardo
Dear Rhoda I'm so glad to see your web site and I'm too impressed. I can honestly say I was so surprised to meet you and your family there in Iowa. I will come back to your site soon as I can but its that I just stop by the library to use the computer.
Your friend Kelly Doell.
I am a "newbie" working on a website for the local community organization here in Virginia Beach, Virginia. While researching for ideas, I came across your fantastic website. If you have no objections, I will LINK your site to the one I am working on. This will give the opportunity for the Filipino youths to learn about our Mother Land. And for the older generations to reminisce about the good old days.
My home email address is: <ernie@vabch.com>
I have just consulted your Tagalog dictionary on line. You have forgotten the accents on Tagalog words so that we don't know on what syllable stress is and whether or not there is a final glottal stop. Why didn't you emulate good dictionaries like those of Panganiban, Santos, English?
Congratulations for your website. Ang how useful it is! I have been using your tutorial service quite often, and I must say Noel Morada is quite genial and patient. Keep on the good work going. Jean-Paul: potetjp@wanadoo.fr
This is a great site. I am learning really fast and it is improving my relations with my in-laws everyday. Ako po ay taos-pusong nagpapasalamat. Chris Cluckey
maganda at maayos ang mga nilalaman ng website na ito... lalong-lalo na yoong mga litrato. keep up the great work. i'll definitely link this to my site and refer it to my friends and colleagues.
best wishes!
I am learning tagalog while working here in Alaska, and that was after having the opportunity to visit there in July '99. I am very excited about returning, and would like to know much more of the language before I return. I would also like to know if you know of any way sites where I could learn medical terms in Tagalog. I am a RN and would like to help out when I return, but feel the need to have better communication. If you could help me out I would really appreciate it. Also, how do I get on the Quiz list?
Thank You very much, Brad Clere bclere@peacehealth.org
Hi everyone,
My name is Paul Moraga and I am a graduate student at San Francisco State University in the department of Instructional Technology (College of Education). I am in the process of developing a computer-based instructional piece on Tagalog for medical personnel. I have studied Tagalog, but I am not fluent (or even close).
I am looking for people who would be interested in assisting me with questions about Tagalog usage or with user testing a little further down the line.
If you are interested, please e-mail me at pmoraga@sfsu.edu
Maraming Salamat!
Paul Moraga Daly City, CA
i like your homepage but i need lyrics for the tagalog songs. i cant find them anywhere.
Hi,
Just want to let you guys know that you did a marvelous job with your website. It's something that all Filipinos can be proud of.
Sobrang Galing ng Pagkagawa. Keep up the good work.
SJ Cruz
Certainly looks better since I visited this site last year. I hope you get to complete the other features.
Superb!!! Mabuti na lang may site na ganito para sa mga nasa malayong tulad ko, especially sa place like Moscow na iba ang language. Nakalimutan ko na salita natin. I'll be in touch now.
evelyn Moscow
hi...i am a british guy..(scottish actually)...but i have visited the philippines before and i am due to marry my filipina fiancee there in december.. your site helped me a lot with basic understanding of tagalog and a bit of filipino culture too...
I enjoyed very much reading and learning from your site . You have done a wonderful job ! Maraming salamat!
We are a translation agency always in need of Tagalog translators for election material with some sort of translator certification. Can you recommend anyone or guide me to where we may find a qualified Tagalog translator?
Great Site! I visit here all the time, because I am trying to learn this beautiful language. Sometimes the translator don't work, but usually the problem is resolved quickly. One day, I 'd like to see a page that allows one to type in a whole sentence of Tagalog, and translate the entire sentence to English! Now that would be a big programming project!!
This site has a lot of Tagalog info for us beginners.
It's too bad I didn't check out this website earlier in the semester. I find it very useful and informative. I will definitely use it in reviewing for my Tagalog final in two weeks. - Karen Caturan
its nice but i have question gusto ko sana i send ninyo sa akin kung sino kumanta ng just tell me u love me pls
I appreciate your site so much!!! It's so hard to find any info on tagalog where I live. I will definiately put you on my favorites list.
Salamat po sa inyong lahat sa pagtulong tulong ninyong maibigay ang lahat ng nilalaman ng tagalog cyber-bahay. Ito pa lamang ang aking nakitang lugar na kinakitaan ko ng lahat na dapat malaman sa Pilipinas. Ito ngayon ang aking ginagamit upang maturuan ang aking mga anak tungkol sa Pilipinas. Maliit pa sila ng kami ay mapadpad sa kalawakan ng Amerika. Ngunit lagi namin silang iminumulat sa kagawian sa ating bansa at ngayon ay malaking tulong ang lugar na ito upang aming makamit ang aming ninais na mapalawak ang kanilang kaalaman tungkol sa ating bansa.
Mabuhay po kayong lahat.
Rolly Malinis Vallejo, California USA
Tita Rhoda, I like the website very much.But when I opened the Tagalog chat the document was not found Karl Gallo
I think that this is such an incredible website and I totally give yaul your props most definetly!I'm Filipino and just learning how to speak it and this is really helping me!Thanks!
Love, Michelle Divine Hensel
This is great!!! Thank you very much for all your hard work. It would be nice if we can have some Tagalog Christmas songs. Ano po ang masasabi ninyo?
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. God Bless you all.
Yolanda
Well I used this site before I went for my second trip to Manila and successfully used the Tagalog I learned with my new close friend -
Maraming Salamat,
Taz.
Hello! Ako po si Nobue at ang dating estudyante ni Mama Terry (Ramos) sa UH. Puwede po kaya makapasok sa Quiz sa on-line bilang guest? Tumatype ako ng 111-11-1111 sa kahon, pero ayaw yata ang command na ito. Kaya wala akong magagawa. Kung meron ho kayong sagot dito, paki-alaman na lang ako! Maraming salamat po sa inyo! More power to itong page at Tagalog Program sa NIU! Maligayang pasko at Masaganang Bagong Taon! Gumagalang, nobue suzuki
Hello! Ako po si Nobue ulit! I thought this page really fantastic! I also regretted that at the University where I studied Tagalog did not have this kind of service at the time I was there.
At the same time, it would be very nice if I could hear sounds more and more directly. Halimbawa, when I click a word, it tells me how I should pronounce it. So, Mama Terry doesn't have to be embarrased by my pronunciation! Songs as well. It'd be very nice if Filipino-Japanese kids I deal with can sing Lupang Hinirang on-line!
I know creating this kind of site takes a lot of time and concerted effort and dedication. But I hope that we would all be benefitted from your program, especially outside the US, where a growing numbers of Pinoy live today.
Marami pong salamat!
nobue suzuki
Napakahusay ang website ito. I have been studying Filipino/Tagalog on and off for about 4 years. It's nice to see that there is a serious website dedicated to those of us that want to learn. I was excited to see that there is a chat room available particularly for learners. However, there never seems to be anybody chatting there. Is there a time that is better than others to log in? Anyway, kudos to Dr. Ramos for her dedicated efforts and far reaching tutorial materials. Your books are always a source of reference for me (I have most of them). If I ever become truly conversant in Tagalog, your works will have been an integral part of my goal. Salamat po sa ninyong lahat. Sa palagay ko, di-maaari wala ang site ito sa mga estudyanteng lahat sa tagalog.
Thanks ! It's much help me to speak Tagalog in the shourt time.
Hello It's nice web, But I can operate the Dico Why ? Is it in fonction ?
Thierry
I really enjoyed this site...thanks also for providing other links...I wish i could find more books for kids (tagalog klasik) para maibasa ko sa aking anak. Maraming salamat sa pagbuo ninyo ng web site na ito. More power to ya'll.
maraming matutunan ang mga mambabasa ng inyong homepage. ito'y makatutulong sa amin na nasa ibang bayan. maaari bang gamitin namin ang ilang impormasyon sa aming babasahin dito sa alemanya?
Hello! This is a nice site. However, I really need a English to Tagalog dictionary. Are you going to make one someday? Do you have any idea where I could find one in the meantime? Let me know, huh. Thanks.
God Bless!
hello everybody, saan po ako makabili nang encyclopedia na pilipino version?maraming salamat po,ang umaasa albert sa osaka japan.
I stumbled upon this site by accident while helping someone translate an English phrase into Tagalog, as I'm feeling rusty. But what a great find this turned out to be!! I know it must have taken a lot of time and effort. CONGRATULATIONS from Singapore !! I know I'll be visiting very often ...
Seasite,
Thank-you for giving me a site to go for Tagalog. My wife is Filipina and she tries to teach me Tagalog. Your site helps me learn the language without trying her patience.
Stan
Dear Flip Site,
I wish I had known about your web site before choosing my email name, but then not many pinoy have trouble remembering it. My dictionary said "cheater" ( a non-conformist sounding name, I thought) but I have since found out it means, as you know, "philanderer". Your site also looks very nice and has a quick load time.
Sincerely, Charles Bell
this homepage is good and can be something i can be proud of. pls keep up the good work!!!!!
this website is nice and easy to download. keep up the good work!!!!!!
Impressive!!! And I enjoy navigating the page and this is the page that I'm waiting for to teach my son as he grow. I'm glad I found this site. I wish though that you will come up with some nursery rhym for little ones in the kids sections for the parents to teach there growing children. Keep up the good work folks, this is really great and very helpful to those who wants to learn more about our culture, the things that you have here is real good helpful that's all I can say and thanks very much for coming up with this great wonderful idea.
I would like to know more of the language, unfortunatly your lessons are written in tagalog with no easy way to use the power of the computer to quickly interpret the words as you find them, as the paste function is dissabled in the look up dictionary. Any language learning project needs a starting point where one may first learn the most commonly used words of a language, by referencing it to english. Your lessons fall very short of that minimum, so interesting as your site is, it is useless to one wishing to learn some of the language.
Hi,I wanted to tell you that I love this sight.I have been trying to learn tagalog for a while now, by the cassette tapes.This is so much better.Thank you!! I do have a question,..... Does anyone know of how I can get a hold of some cassette tapes,of fiction or non-fiction books.Not the "learn how to speak" tapes, but ones that are an actual book.(In tagalog of course)I dont have anyone to practice with,or listen to,so I thought that listening to a book in tagalog,would help out a lot.(ronda789@yahoo.com) Thank you so much
Excellent. This is a great contribution to the preservation and promotion of the Filipino language and culture. This site should be made a national treasure. Keep up the good work.
Maraming salamat sa napakagandang website ninyo. I see that you have the title "Ang Dalagang Pilipina" on your list. Is it possible to request the lyrics for it? I'll be performing on a beauty pageant here in Toronto and I was asked to serenade the contestants. I'd like to sing this song and one other in English. If you have the lyrics for "Ang Dalagang ...", please kindly email it to me as soon as you can. Thank you and more power to your site.
May I suggest that you create a special forum where Pilipinos all over the world can reminisce and try to recapture all the Filipino songs in Tagalog that has been sang but are now scattered in the long-term memory of the Filipinos. Recapture them by inviting Filipinos to submit a song that they know but could not quite complete because they had forgotten some of the parts. If anyone knows the tune they can submit it to you, and someone can put a note in them and have them played in piano like an accompaniment that your audience can listen to while reading and singing the song as you printed almost like kareoke with Filipino songs. Let me start with a song I keep remembering but I had forgotten the first part:
ANG KISLAP NG 'YONG MATA, AT DITO SA BUKID AY NAGING ILAW. TAYO MANIRAHAN. DULOT NG PAG-IBIG MO'T KUNG SAKALING TAYO'Y MASAYANG ARAW. MAKASAL NA, LAGI KONG INA-ASAM, IROG MAGTAYO KA, NA KITA AY MAKASAL, DITO KAHIT KUBO....
Dear Sir this is excellant effort to introduce your page on web on internet ,I hope that many peoples like me who are interested to learn this laguage (Tagalog).
This is the BEST Tagalog website I've ever seen. It is very evident that you spent time and effort to make this site visually appealing and educationally superior.
I would like to learn my mother's language. She is from Iloilo, and there is no help for me on-line.
The site was very well put together for the Philippine culture. It is one of the best site I've seen and please continue to add new articles at your Home Page.
Your site is a tool to inform Filipinos to take pride of our own culture-- arts, language, religion and politics.
Although the political part of the Philippines right now is on a gray area under Estrada's administration, we hope that Filipinos will work harder to achieve the real sense of democracy and freedon.
I enjoyed reading your views and articles regarding the EDSA revolution. I was in the Philippines 13 years ago and I witnessed the non-violent EDSA revolution rally against Marcos. I am glad that until today, Filipinos has not forgotten to commemorate one of the most important date in our history.
Keep up the good work of your site and more power to you. Thank you...
Stephanie
Hi! I've used the dictionary (large) to look up some tagalog words I need for schooling (college).But sadly, I am still left w/ 55 more w/c seems to be not included in ur the dictionary's data base. I tried to e-mail but I encountered problems as well. It says "Unable to start application. One of the required components may be busy.Pls. retry." When I did, this came out "The specified Internet Mail action could not be completed. Pls. check the syntax of the command line." So I decided to post my comment because I badly need ur assistance. Pls e-mail me through honeyjimenez@hotmail.com so that I can get ur address and e-mail my specific Tagalog word problems (meanings). I hope you can respond to my request asap. Thanks! *Can u add a Tagalog Thesaurus to ur educational/informative page sometime too?*
Dear sir/ma'am,
Kindly tell me when to use the word NANG? am currently using your site to teach a Japanese our native language.
Salamat po.
The website is really good, but when I was trying to get into the "Tagalog Tutor: translations, help, etc," it wouldn't let me.
I would like to get the verse of the Bible on John 3:16 in Tagalog
Here is the translation of John 3: 16 in Tagalog:
SAPAGKAT GAYON NA LAMANG ANG PAGSINTA NG DIYOS SA SANLIBUTAN KAYA'T IBINIGAY NIYA ANG KANYANG BUGTONG NA ANAK, UPANG ANG SINO MANG MANANALIG SA KANYA AY DI MAPAHAMAK, KUNDI MAGKAROON NG BUHAY NA WALANG HANGGAN. -- Noel M.
By accident I stumbled on your website. Very good and very interesting! My congratulations! I'm especially interested to know more about Cebuano and Waray. How can I hear it? Also native songs, is there anyway I can hear it over the internet? You people have a great, great culture. Please protect it from the outside!! Gerard Harteveld, email orquiflora@hotmail.com
This site will come in handy since my son and I are trying to learn Tagalog.
I love the design of your website but I strongly suggest you lose the clip art for the Tagalog Tutor and Chatroom. It really jars with the sophisticated look of the paintings and site design.
Your site is very good in terms of the interactive learning tools that you provide.
However.. A lot of the words you say to look up in the dictionary do not exist in the dictionary, so how am I supposed to know what they mean?
hey, this is a great site, very well organized. i was having trouble with tagalog grammatika, pero marunung ako (kaunti lang, at least. magaling salitain ako, pero hindi sulatin ... is that right? i'm still learning) after coming to this site. the only problem i had was the dictionary, but i found one at https://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/~budoka/tagadic.html (i think this will help others with some of the words that aren't in the dictionary here). thanks a lot for the site ... PS do you think you could start a section or put up links to sites on filipino culture? thanks again, keep it up!
I LOVE your website. My mother and father did not teach me any of our language and i have had a hunger to learn and teach my children. Please do not stop publishing your site...Our immediate family of 23 grandchildren, 7 daughters relish what you have brought to our family...We can't thank you enough..
Ps. I linked your web site to our family web site... www.realinfamily.com (under construction)
Sir, this is the best tagalog learning site on the web as of now,being an arab speaking english as second language and want to learn tagalog beause my wife is a filipina ,I found your site very useful.the only thing I want to criticise is your view to Muslim and Islam which is onesided and unfair
I don't think there is any unfair or biased comments in this site against Islam.
The second verse of the song "Buhat", starts with "Buhat, nang makita ka lamang, bawat masdan ko'y kariktan" I really enjoy your web page. My thanks to everyone involved.
Hi!!! Just want to say hi and that the website is very cool and informative especially the recipies..hehehe. Also want to say hi to Ate Rhoda and to say that i did look and the website and i give props to whoever is in charge of it. That's all. -Liciele
this is one of the best sites. I have studied linguistics and have publ;ished aleanrers guide to an Australian language. The use of audio to aid pronunciation is good and I like the diagrams for the lessons. Now back to work on lesson 1. cheers John
It is good that your site teaches others something of the Philippines and Tagalog. I'm sure you must be proud of your heritage and history and wish for others to respect it.
In my tradition we are taught that mankind was made into nations and tribes so that we might know each other (and not despise each other).
On the page titled The Philippines in South East Asia there is a painting by Vicente Reyes labeled "Muslim Betrothal" The people in the painting are not muslims. The men have long hair and neither beards nor mustaches. One man has tight clothing, another is not covered to the knee and is wearing gold. The women are naked from the waist up. Neither is covered down to her ankle and one is wearing silver. The effect is to present effeminate men and masculine women who have no respect for themselves or islam. In short the painting is not a 'muslim betrothal' and is highly offensive to muslims.
How can you expect others to respect Pilipinos if you cannot show respect for others? Perhaps you could keep the painting and merely change the title to Philippino Betrothal. It would not be any more (or less) misleading than it is now, and you would no longer insult muslims. If you feel an insult, then you will understand what I have been saying. Perhaps better would be to remove the painting.
Thank you for your courtesy and prompt attention to this matter. It is always good to learn something of other's cultures.
Ang galing galing naman!!! What a great site! Job well done! I know I'll have a lot of use of the English-Tagalog dictionary. And the fables and songs are a wonderful treat! Keep up the good work!
Magandang araw! Napakaganda ng website na ito. Malaking tulong sa mga Pilipino na lumaki sa ibang bansa. Kaya lang sana ay may mga artikulo na sa tagalog din nakasulat.
I love this site! However, I tried to use the dictionary and had no luck. I think that the site may be outdated. I live on the east coast. I am trying to find a tagalog course, but I have had no luck. Could you please help refer me to an online tagalog class or something. I would greatly appreciate it. Just found your site - what a rewarding experience it's been! Love the art and the insightful articles on our language and culture. I've been trying to understand my roots for years and this has been a big plus on the journey. Especially looking forward to the discussions and sharing the Kids' section with my son. Somehow, we both speak better French than Tagalog - a situation I want to equalize.
Looking for Filipino social, cultural, church groups in the N. Virginia, Frederick Md., DC area for new arrival from Manila.
1) This homepage is too politically motivated and biased.
2) Why Tagalog and not Filipino? too Anti-Filipino, does it mean only Tagalog-speaking citizens are Filipino?
3) Tagalog is widely hated in other parts of the Philippines, for your info. A lot of "Filipinos" doesn't care to understand or use that language. They prefer to use english as a medium of speech rather.
4) A lot of people appreciate the design of this homepage when in fact a template from Front Page was used to create this site. No originality. Just like Tagalog language mostly adopted from Spanish language which is much hated by Tagalog themselves.
Have a nice day!!!! :)
The above comment is the primordial mother of all stupid comments about Tagalog and other languages in the Philippines. It betrays the supreme ignorance of the commentator regarding the evolution of Tagalog, Pilipino, and Filipino. Nobody ever said that Tagalog is the national language of the Philippines, but that it is only one of the bases of Filipino (that includes other languages in the Philippines such as Cebuano, Ilocano, etc.), which is one of the national languages of the Philippines, along with English. Who ever said that if one does not speak Tagalog he is therefore not a Filipino? And who ever said that Tagalog is very much liked or "loved" by ALL Filipinos, even though SOME or MOST may prefer to speak English more than Tagalog? Still, it does not negate the fact that Tagalog is very much the lingua franca in the national capital region of the Philippines and is spoken widely by overseas Filipinos. That is a fact, whether non-Tagalog speakers like it or not.
Utterly amazing! I am eternally grateful for such work as this... if I may quote Dr. Jose Rizal:
"...And like the golden sun of the morn Whose rays resplendent shedding gold, And like fair aurora of gold and red She overspreads her color bold; Such true education proudly gives The pleasure of virtue to young and old And she enlightens out Motherland dear As she offers endless glow and luster..."
"...ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika, daig pa ang hayop at malansang isda..."
"...He who does not know well his mother tongue will know much less others that he has not studied carefully..."
I must say, you, who worked so hard to put this site together, deserve all the credit that is due. Thank you! You are empowering minds and the youth, both young and old. More power to you!
A friend needed info about Christmas Traditions in the Philippines. Told her I'll search the internet.
Using "Go" search engine, I entered Philippines Christmas Traditions and No matches found.
Next I used "Lycos" and hit the jackpot when I found your Tagalog page. What incredible resource! I was so happy to find exactly what I needed plus much, much more.
In addition to the wealth of information, I like the format, the graphics, actually, everything about your page. Can't wait to tell my husband. He'd love this page as he tries to learn Tagalog and about our culture.
I just sent an e-mail to friends and family members about your Tagalog page including the web address.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your excellent Tagalog web page.
Mabuhay! I am a Filipino student currently studying in Tokyo. I am going to make a presentation about the Philippines next month and have found your site very useful and interesting. I was wondering if it possible for me to use some of the pages (specifically those on culture and people) as a kind of hand-out. I would not want to violate copyright rules and such and I really do hope you will give me the permission. I shall, of course, make it a point to acknowledge your site as the source of whichever material I shall be using.
What a wonderful service you are offering. I am trying to learn Tagalog so I can communicate with my new friend who speaks Tagalog. If I would have known about you earlier I would have used this service before. What is the Tagalog word for William?
William, Canada.
This is in response to the posting of William of Canada:
Most Filipino names are adopted from Spanish. So it is common for Filipinos to have names such as Jose, Pedro, Ramon, Juan, etc. There is no counterpart Tagalog name for William, and at best you can look up the Spanish equivalent. For example, the Spanish equivalent of John is Jose or Juan, Peter is Pedro, Luke is Lucas. I hope this short explanation helps. -- Noel M.
your online study of Tagalog is helping me very much to learn. I enjoy it very much. thank you .
Where did you get the images for the learning of words like nephew,niece etc?? In the image there is a representation of a man giving what appears to be a blessing. This is very interesting because your site is not conected to the L.D.S. church or is it?
Our site is not in any way connected with any religious group or organization. Any image that appears to resemble any religious practice or tradition is just mere coincidence. -- SEAsite Tagalog group
Nandito ako sa Japan ng halos isang taon na't kalahati. Para di ko makalimutan ang aking lupang kinagisnan, parati akong naghahanap sa internet ng mga sites na nagtataguyod ng ating wika, kultura at kabihasnan. Ang pagkahanap ko ng website ninyo ay parang hulog ng langit sa akin. Maaliwalas sa mata, hitik sa impormasyon, kapaki-pakinabang,at talaga namang maipagmamalaki.
Natutuwa rin ako't sa wakas, nakahanap rin ako ng matinong English-Tagalog dictionary (at pabalik). Namamangha ako kasi rito sa Japan sa lalim ng kanilang bokabularyo. Sana ay magkaroon din tayo ng lubos na pagkakaisap upang palawigin pa ang paggamit ng ating wikang pambansa.
* Puwede bang mag-ambag ng mga salita sa mga dictionaries ninyo? Napansin kong marami pang mga nawawalang salita na mayroon din namang salin.
Could you tell me what is "Welcome" in tagalog?
Thank you.
The Page is great! The People who visit you are cute. I can tell by their comments. Even the errors are honest and good. Who ever dreamed up this site has done much good for many. I love Ibong Adarna.. though the site here has a minor anomaly. Look at the Adarna KOMIK Presentation please.: Site picture #6 is JPG 6 (as it should be) #7 is also JPG 6 (not good. same pic) #8 is JPG 7 (not good) #9 is JPG 9 (as it should be) I have not noticed any more errors with the rest of the story. Very good, indeed!!! If you have the missing page/pages, would you fix the site or send me the page by way of attachment?
Is there a translation somewhere for that Ibong Adarna komik? have you ever heard of an IRISHMAN translating tagalog to English??? Hmmmmm, have ya now? Komiks, at that?
Once my confidence is on keel, I have a Tagalog Question that would stump the best of ya. I am not here for that now. Instead, I send Love to you and at what you do so well.
This is a great site with lots of good information on how to speak the Tagalog language. However, I am very confused with the conjugations of the verbs. There are so many tenses. I think that the "Table of Verbs" would be very useful. Is it still under construction because it is not up yet?
ang green ay hindi berde. kastila 'yon 'no. ang green ay luntian, 'di ba!
-Lea Bron Sikat
Ang green ay berde at luntian sa Tagalog. Pero magkaiba ang gamit. Pag halaman at ibang kauring bagay, luntian ang ginagamit ng mga nagsasalita ng Tagalog, pero kung sa ibang bagay, berde ang kadalasan ginagamit. Berdeng damit, berdeng bag, berdeng sapatos, berdeng kotse, etc. Ang berde ay galing sa Kastila, gayon din naman ang ibang salitang Tagalog, gaya ng mesa, silya, bintana, lapis, sapatos. Maraming salita sa Tagalog ang hiram sa Kastila at iba pang mga wika (gaya ng Bahasa Indonesia -- utang, mahal, mura, bayaran, etc.). -- Noel M.
First, I would like to say that I am a Filipino-American. My mother is half Filipino & half American, which makes me 1/4 American & 3/4 Filipino, & PROUD of it! Mestiza! This web-site is full of information about our native language of the Philippines-Tagalog. Altough I cannot speak my language fluently, I can understand alot more than I can speak. This web-site gives people the chance to know where their roots are & how their language was derived. It also gives non-Tagalog speakers the chance to learn about OUR language. People are given the chance to learn about the many different dialects, that also pertain to the Islands of the Philippines. Thank You to those who put their time & effort in making this web-site possible. Maraming Salamat Po! Edgelle Granflor (e-mail: kinkeebabee@hotmail.com)
Sorry! The last 4 entries were by me, Leanne... I didn't get a confirmation, saying that what I sent went through... MY BAD...=) To those who have access, you may delete, the 1st & 2nd to last comments... Leanne
Yes, this is what the internet for. I am a volunteer worker for a development-aid NGO in Japan, and I would visit the Philippines once or twice a year. I found this page a week ago, and I spent a lot of time learning Tagalog... and I enjoy it! Many thanks for these pages, and I hope this will improve more! (and I hope you will include intermediate lessons sometime...)
gusto ko lang po ng tulong ninyo tungkol sa salita at panunulat ng mga pilipino nung mga nakaraan. like in arabic or polynesian style. gusto ko lang matutong magsulat . kagaya ng salitang ka-tu-tu-bo, o kaya ay mandirigma.
salamat po
Very interesting website, one I hope to visit often as I broaden my language skills. One thing that wasn't apparent to me was proper pronunciation? I am not sure if I am correctly sounding the letters and words. Is there a website that I didn't see that reviews the correct sounds each letter or groups of letters make for a native english speaking person as myself. Please email me at txtigger37@yahoo.com with a recommendation(s). Thanks.
Your website is fantastic! Whoever designed this website deserves a thumbs up and a medal for best Tagalog Lessons on the Web. Keep up the good work! This is one of my favourite website to visit.
But I found a misspelt word on the Beginning Tagalog Lesson 1 "Every day Greetings" in the "Pre-Activity section" the "Learn A Song" do you mean to say "ang" instead of the word "and". The line that says "Ituro and paa"? It's ituro ang paa, isn't it?
Thank you so much!! I finally have somewhere to learn my native tongue. By the way, the Applet for your Translation Page in the Vocabulary Section for "Describing People, Objects, etc." doesn't seem to work (also in the previous section). Keep up the good work.
Great site!
Have yet to go through the entire site, but I could say this is great!
I was helping my girls in their Pilipino assignment and stumbled (nicely) into this site. There seems so much info here. Keep up the good work!
God bless.
To all Filipinos
On the occasion of the celebration of the 103rd Anniversary of Philippine Independence from Spain we commemorate our heritage and the birth of the Philippine nation, over the cornerstone of Hispanofilipino Identity.
The Philippines has a recognized Hispanofilipino culture, formed in the course of more than three centuries under Spanish rule. Such culture and identity are not a copy of the Spanish ones, but a hybrid, autonomous, unique mix of Malay, Chinese and Spanish elements. Therefore, the people of the Philippines have developed through their past, a fundamental identity that makes them part of the Hispanic/Latin world.
An important component of identity is the language. Spanish had become the predominant language in late 19th-century Philippines, together with Tagalog and the other Filipino languages. The first Constitution was drafted in the Spanish language and all the leaders of that time (Dr. José Rizal, Graciano L Jaena, Marcelo del Pilar, Apolinario Mabini, Sixto López, Felipe Agoncillo, etc.) were representatives of the Hispanic Filipino people and espoused the Spanish language.
After the annexation of the Philippines by the United States of America, the Spanish language became gradually discredited by the Americans' imposition of English. The American colonizers "stole" from the Filipinos their identity and their Spanish language. Many Filipino journalists, writers, poets, including politicians like Claro M. Recto, decried the loss of the Spanish language and what was its foundation: Hispanofilipino identity.
Filipinos and friends around the world have founded the "Círculo Hispanofilipino" again. The Circle was first created in the 1880s by the Propagandists in Madrid, to win equal rights for the Filipinos with the Spanish. The Filipino leaders who founded the first Circle used the Spanish language, not only because they did their political and cultural work in Spain, directed to the Spaniards, but also because Spanish was indeed the language that they considered rightfully belonged to the Filipinos.
The new Hispanic Filipino Circle thus continues the idea of the founders of the first "Círculo Hispanofilipino" vis à vis the identity of the Philippines and the Filipinos as Hispanic-Amerasians. The Circle's objective is to make the Hispanofilipino cultural legacy an important vehicle of reunification. It does not conceive of "Hispanic Filipino" as excluding of the Muslim or Chinese Filipinos or the ethnic minorities, but rather as a globalizing concept of the historical circumstances within which all the Filipinos developed as a pluralistic nation. "Hispanic Filipino" is therefore a concept that we can use to reunite, and no longer to divide and alienate.
We work for a change in the Filipinos' cultural awareness toward the revaluation of the Hispanic Filipino heritage -- especially the linguistic legacy of the Spanish and Chavacano languages -- and to promote reflection on Hispanic Filipino identity and history, which are the Filipinos' fundamental bridges to the Hispanic world.
The Spanish language, we believe, must regain the importance for the Filipinos that it had 100 years ago. It is today, besides this, one of the two most important languages in the world, side by side with English.
All Filipinos around the world are requested to support the aims of the Círculo and their profound Hispanofilipino identity, heritage and culture, as well as the revival of the Spanish language in the Philippines.
¡Viva Filipinas, España, América! Mabuhay!
Magaling ang site ninyo. Nagaaral lang ako ng tagalog. I shall use your site intensively. Well done. Where are you guys? Wisconsin? How interesting.
Isang magandang gawain na inyong pinalalaganap upang makatulong sa mga taong nagnanais na matuto ng Tagalog. Mahabang sandali rin ang aking ginugol sa mga "pasok" at "pindot" na natagpuan ko sa inyong pahina. Ako'y naaliw sa aking mga nabasa dito sa pahina para sa "Ano po ang masasabi ninyo?". May mga naghahanap lang ng kung ano, "lyrics" ng awitin, kuwento, mga nag-aaral ng Tagalog (mga banyaga (ang dila) at mga naging banyaga na rin ang dila dahil sa pangingibang bansa. Meron ngang banyaga na nag-aaral para sa kanyang sintang pinay. hahaha. At meron din namang mga nagpapahiwatig ng di pag-nanais sa salitang Tagalog. Ako'y taal na Tagalog ang salita, kasalukuyang naririto sa bansang Hapon, subalit nalalapit ng bumalik sa Pilipinas. Sa wakas muli ko na namang magagamit ang aking taal na dila sa pakikipagtalastasan. Ilang panahon ding ito'y naumid, at nagbigay daan sa pagbigkas ng wikang banyaga. Hangad ko ang lubos pang pagtataguyod ng salitang Tagalog ng inyong samahan. Mabuhay! Pagbati na rin ng Maligayang Araw ng mga Puso! (lenareh@yahoo.com)
Your site is great resource. I am trying to learn tagalog on my own. I don't live in your area, so I can't attend your classes. Otherwise I would. Do you have any instructional CDs or other material to suggest that I could use? Thanks for your effort and dedication. sukalley@yahoo.com
I must commend you on this wonderful and very informative site! It's probably the best site out there on the Filipino culture. I enjoy very much the format, as well as the multitude of informations available, not to mention your tasty recipies! As a mestizo and an Hispano-Filipino, I am rallying in support of a renaissance of our Spanish heritage---the revival of the Spanish language in the Philippine school system---and with that anything that involves celebrating our great heritage. If you have infos. for me concerning such, pls. e-mail me at jkat74@hotmail.com Mabuhay! Y Viva la Hispanidad!
I am a Filipino in VA who has a lot of American friends. Recently, one of my American friends asked me if I can teach her the Tagalog language. I am so so thankful and glad to have found your website. It is the most helpful "how to learn/speak Tagalog" site. Everything is perfect for a beginner in Tagalog and then some. I even got overwhelmed as I didn't think there's that much to learn. THANK YOU for the creator(s) of the Tagalog website. I have added your site to my favorites and will be passing on your website address to my other friends. Thanks a million again, good luck, and superb work!
Please notice that TUBONG LUGAW (slang ) has opposite meaning than what you stated here. LUGAW is rice soup. It is boiling a handful of rice in a caldron of water plus salt to taste. Therefore, it means TOO MUCH PROFIT. I really enjoy browsing your website. I linked it in my personal webpage https://members.rogers.com/lan Orlando Lascano (Brampton, Ontario)
Komento doon sa may Pilipino/ Filipino dilemma. Actually, puwede mong gamitin ang Filipino sa tatlong paraan. Puwede itong maging pang-uri(adjective)(halimbawa: Filipino language), pangngalan (noun)para sa mga taong nagmula sa Pilipinas (Tayong mga Filipino, I am a Filipino), o bilang pangngalan para sa ating wikang ginagamit (Filipino). Samantalang ang salitang Pilipino ay maaari lamang gamitin bilang pangngalan para sa mga taong sa Pilipinas nagmula. Filipino ang ating pambansang wika, hindi Pilipino. Kapag sinabi kasi nating Pilipino ang wika natin, sa Tagalog lamang ito nagmula. Marahil, dahil sa lumalawak na ang konteksto ng ating wika, kaya kinailangang magkaroon ng isang salitang maglalarawan sa diversity nito. Ang wikang Filipino ay binubuo ng Pilipino (Tagalog), Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Panggalatok, at iba pang dayalekto ng ating bansa. Kasama na rin dito ang Ingles, kaya maari nating masabing ang Tag-lish (Tagalog/English), ay isang bahagi ng wikang Filipino.
We are a New York City based interpreting / translation service currently in need of Tagalog / English interpreters for assignments in the tri-state area. If you are qualified and interested please e-mail or fax a resume to me at (212) 983-5998 or Dgrote@metlang.com. Thanks, Dan Grote
Sana ay lalo pa ninyong pag-ibayuhin ang inyong pagsisikap at gantimpalaan kayo ng suporta ng mas maraming Filipino. Mabuhay kayong lahat!
I really like all that formal/polite/romatic/poetic/literary Tagalog. I like using those instead the more common words. It's a really nice site! Also, I'd like to suggest that you develop the formatting of the Tagalog<->English Dictionary. I've seen this free "EDICT" Japanese<->English computerized Dictionary (actually, it's just a text file) which became very well-developed after years of numerous contributions. Many Commercial software eventually used it, but the EDICT is continuously updated and it's still free. It would be great to have a well-developed Tagalog<->English Dictionary for computer users.
What a fantastic Web Site. I've learned enough words now to really understand some sentences but have a long way to go. I do have trouble understanding what gabi 1 and gabi 2 means when you type in the word for the look up in the dictionary though. There are other words as well that comes out the same way there by not allowing me to understand the entire sentence, for example:Inggat lang pare ko". When you enter Pare, the dictionay comes up with Pare 1 and pare 2, what does this mean? Anyways, keep up the good work. I would like to see more sound files of words and hear the proper sound of the pronunciation. Salamat Calvin
This is a fabulous site, thank you so much~!! I'm trying to learn Tagalog on my own and this is helping me so much. Do you happen to know additional books that can help me out? hello there! just wanna congratulate you about the great job you did with this site. iy is very organize and easy to comprehend. a lot of people could learn about the philippines with this site. you've captured the philippine culture clearly. hope you'll add more stuff to the different categoies like the songs, poems, stories, riddles, etc. i also hope you'd add the filipino musical instruments with the music. thank you so much for this site and for reading my comment. maraming salamt, double doulble
This is fantastic. Great job....CONGRATULATIONS. You have filled up a gap in cyber space by putting your creativity to uplift the stature of the Filipino genre. MABUHAY SA INYONG LAHAT. I am hoping you will keep the web site world class. What a very important resource, especially sa mga anak ng mga migrants sa ibang bansa na lumaki na di namulatan ang kulturang Pinoy. Often, I ifnd myself typing up files in my home computer like Bayang Magiliw or Panatang Makabayan from memory just so I could pass this on to my son and he learn a little bit about the place I used to call home. Now ito na ang reference site niya for everything Pinoy. We owe you...
I am a new user. I went to "tagalog for kids"--very cute! Unfortunately, for each sound I was asked whether to "download to disk" or "play from current location" and then had to wait for the file to transfer and save the playlist and so forth... it would be great to just press the green dot and hear something! I am computer illiterate, so maybe it's my computer?
I read thru all the comments and saw one talking about the Pilipino bakla...if you are interested, an Australian Lecturer at the University of Western Sydney, Bankstwon, School of Humanities have done a lot of work on this having lived in the Philippines for quite a while. The website is www.uws.edu.au and follow the links. Unfortunately the site is being updated so can not access information now. His name is Dr Paul Mathews. Visit the site sometime later and you will see his list of publications, about half a dozen of them talks about this and other things peculiar to the Pinoy culture. Another cultural and nakakaaliw na Pinoy website is www.emanila.com. Good but not quite as classy as this one.
hi, hindi ako maka connect sa mabuhay chat jea
The site is great, particularly the beginners' lessons. There's just one problem - the lack of accent marking. Are there any plans to add it anytime soon? It would certainly help in actually pronouncing the words, for those of us who don't have ready access to a native Tagalog speaker.
Hello, I am looking for a language converter, that will convert from english to Tagalog, or Cebuano. Does such an item exist? I currently own a CD for the computer which teaches Tagalog, but it does not convert in either direction. Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Anyone that has more information in this regard, I would be interested in hearing from you. E-Mail TPCON@flash.net Thank You....
Hey Great site! just would like to know if there is anyway i could get your Lessons on a cd for there is nothing availiable where i live to learn tagalog
This is a lovely site. The artistic nature of the background and also text are truly Filipino in character. I am a Filipino who came to the US as an infant. I lost my ability to speak filipino as I grew older. I took Spanish in high school and college, but now I want to learn more about my own culture and language. Maraming Salamat Po. Garnet
Magandang hapon from Cologne, Germany. Respect goes out for this very awesome site! Gusto ko! My friend and me went to Ilocos this year in May to visit my family in Candon. I am half german, half pinoy, but I was born in Germany, so I cannot really speak tagalog, truly sad!
i love tagalog
we can't find the lyrics for the song " Bagong Lipunan". please help me find it
thank you for helping me understand tagalog as my wife is philippino and i am looking forward to talking to her in her native tongue
maaari po bang magkaroon kayo ng article tungkol sa mga huwarang pilipino na malaki ang naitulong upang mailagay ang pilipinas sa mapa. iyon po bang naging dahilan upang kilalanin tayo ng mundo. isa po sa halimbawa ay yung lumikha ng dyip o yung nakaimbento ng patis. marami pong salamat!!!
This site is very RELEVANT, FUNCTIONAL and IMPRESSING. I think it is NICE also if you can write/publish the `MAKABAGONG ALFABETONG FILIPINO´. I have NOT seen it in this site. To the authors/organizers of this site, I salute you and More Power!
An excellent job you have done here !!! This is one of a kind web-page. I am a very...very level beginner tagalog enthusuast. For now I am looking for direction on the basic of the language. I have a filipino friend and she is very impress with my little vocabulary I have learn in a short time. All this is thanks to you. Looking forward to get a tutor or a pen pal to further my skills. hope to hear from you. jcastillo63@hotmail.com
im proud to be a Filipino! Gusto kong ipagsigawan yan sa buong mundo nang mabisita ko ang inyong website.
Hi! Im Frans Yo. I live in Jambi,Indonesia. I'm a soil physicist and I like to learn languages too. I found your homepage has abundant information on Tagalog and the Philippine. Informative, actual, and superb. Bravo, guys! Frans Yo Jambi, Indonesia
I'm new!! I want to learn more about the filippino traditions. I also want to learn tagalog. We have adopted from the philippines and I want to teach her everything I can about her culture. She has a bithday coming in one week and I would like to use some traditions for her party. Could you please help me with this? brandeehigh@hotmail.com
I was born in Manila, Philippines, but grew up speaking the English language. Despite having lived there for 12 years and had gone to school there, after emigrating to Canada, I found that I had lost my ability to speak and read in Tagalog. After learning to speak French and Spanish, I had decided in my adulthood to revive my knowledge of Tagalog, and much to my chagrin, I sounded like a foreigner reading from her travel dictionary. Coming across this web page is a god-send. I can now teach myself and my children how to speak my mother tongue, and hopefully become fluent and be at ease in speaking Tagalog. Thank you so much. Marcie Johansson, Canada
I would like to thank you for your wonderfull web site that has helped me to better understand the Tagalog language. The concept of "focus" and your down to earth method of explaining it in the context of verbs has brought new life to my study of Tagalog. My wife is from Leyte and we hope to retire in the Philippines someday. It is my dream to be able to converse without the use of english. If you have any course materials for sale I would be interested in buying them. Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat! Ako si Dann R. Thornton dannrt@intrasource.net
i want a waray-waray version of palaisipan.
paano mopa maipapakita sa iba o masasabi sa iba kung huli na ang lahat.
Hello I am not Filipino but visit a lot. I would like to know if there is any software available to assist in the learning of the language of Tagalog. I can speak a very little bit but I would like to refine what I can do at this time. Please let me know. Many thanks Frank Chiavetta PO Box 17954 Long Beach CA 90807 Email: noordam@aol.com I use a Macintosh Computer
Ganda ng site! i'm not that good with filipino, actually. and i'm glad you helped me with my homework in filipino. lot's of useful resources you've got here.
ang webpage na ginawa ninyo ay sadyang makatutulong sa mga mag-aaral lalong-lalo na ,yong mga nagsisimula pa lamang mag-aral nito. bunga po nto nais ko lamang pong i-suggest na sana ay magkaroon din po kayo ng isinakomiks na florante at laura ni francisco baltazar/balagtas, noli me tangere at el filibusterismo ni jose rizal. sana rin po ay palawakin ninyo ang pagtalakay tungkol sa bahagi ng pananalita sa wikang filipino sapagkat napapansin ko pong tila nahihirapan ang mga mag-aaral sa pag-aaral nito. hindi po sila nagkakaroon ng ganap na pagkatuto tungkol sa pangngalan, panghalip, pang-uri, pandiwa, pang-abay gayundin sa ilan pang bahagi nito. magkaroon din po sana kayo ng mga pagsasanay para rito. sana rin po ay lagi ninyo kaming ia-update sa kung ano na ang bagong kaganapan sa ating pambansang wika - ang wikang filipino. salamat po. inaasahan ko pong kahit paano ay bibigyan ninyo ng pansin ang aking suhestyon. magandang araw po!
Good morning! To anyone who would like to learn Tagalog I'm sorry to say there aren't many books for learning the language. BUT the majority of Filipinos speak English so if you can find a pen pal, many Filipinos are eager to practice their English! Just be careful, not all pen pals want to be 'just friends'. To the webmistress? (is that right?) you've made a lovely page that I'm sure will attract more people to learn Tagalog! Just one thing though, the usage of the language seemed a bit stiff and awkward. I understand you wanted it to be formal, but still... Anywayz, masasabi ko lang, *ASTIG!!!!* Ituloy mo lang pre! Okey tong ginagawa nyo para sa kulturang Pilipino! We're proud to be Pinoy! Firipin wa sekai no ichiban na kuni! The Philippines is the best country in the world! Sorry to any Japanese, I love the Japanese language but I'm Filipino so...(kinda mixed the two together) can't blame me for homeland pride ne? Forgive me if I said something stupid, I ain't no expert 'kay?
ok lang naman ang website ninyo! natulungan pa nga ako sa project ko eh!
I ENJOY THIS WEB PAGE A LOT BUT I NEED HELP TO TRANSLATE "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" IN TAGALOG
Excuse me......para saan 'tong website na 'to...help me naman makahanap nang sabayang pagbigkas literary pieces pakisubmit na lang sa aking email add na cute_april12alfante@hotmail.com kailangan ko talaga thanks..........
ang galing-galing. very helpful
I wonder if anyone can help us? We are a library of multicultural resources for children's services in the Illawarra area of NSW Australia. There are quite a few Philippino people living in isolated pockets around our community. We would like some help in educating children's services about Philippino culture and childrearing. Can you point us in the right direction for learning some basic words in Tagalog as well as finding some games, music, songs and recipes.
March 14, 2003 Dear Webhost sitemaster, Greetings and magandang umaga po. My name is John Ella and I'm presently searching for fellow Daly City-based Filipion, Filipino-American and other local and interested as well as private artists to talk to and make friends with. Can you help me? Thank you. I'm presently located as well as living in Daly City. I can be reached via e-mail at tetherme1@msn.com. Please, no solicitations or crank e-mails. Thank you. I really enjoyed looking at as well as submitting comments for your online website. Thank you and please have a nice as well as a good day. Sincerely, John Ella Student, husband, friend.
March 14, 2003 Dear webhost sitemaster, In the first e-mail to you, I submitted an un-spell-checked commentary letter, and would like to add corrections to the word stated as Filipion - and that should have been Filipino - typos may exist elsewhere in the original submitted e-mail, and for those I sincerely apologize - please excuse me, I must write really quickly as well as fast, regarding online submissions - I have so much work to accomplish... Peace. John Ella
Wonderful page...! It's so comprehensive! I just discovered it yesterday and i'm not pinay but my boyfriend is from the philipines. I'll update you on my progress... ;). Hugz
this website is so cool!!!
Ako po'y nagagalak sa pagkakaroon ng ganitong seksyon ng web na may kinalaman sa wika. Nawa'y ito na ang pinakasimula na mamamayagpag ang wikang Filipino sa buong bansang Pilipinas. Arturo V. Abera Guro sa Filipino
Naligaw lang ako malay ko bang dito ako napadpad sa Tagalog site na ito.Cge matutulog pa ako.
I would really like to learn the tagalog language so I can converse with my wife and her family in their native language. Are there any free tutorial sites?( I don't mean just dicitonaries, but grammar too!)
Great Site! I became fairly proficient in Bikol in the late 1970s while serving in the Peace Corps in Legazpi City. To my later dismay, however I never learned much Tagalog. While in Legazpi I met a wonderful young lady from Naga City who was attending college at Aquinas University. We have now been happily married now for 26 years! We enjoy an active “Filipino Social Life” here in the US and we also visit the Philippines every 2 or 3 years. When I am in Bikol, or when I am with Bikiloanos, I am always able to join in the conversation. I have always feel a little bit left out, however, when I am with other Filipinos. Thus, after 26 years, it is now my quest to learn Tagalog! I found your web site while browsing under “Tagalog” and “Foreign Language”. Your site is exactly what I was looking for. With my background in Bikol, I have always been able to understand quite a bit of Tagalog, but have never been able to speak it well. Your grammar lessons are a tremendous help, and I am picking up new concepts and new vocabulary every day. As part of my learning process I am trying to read at least one article per day from Kabayan Online (www.Kabayanonline.com). The news articles are a bit “deep”, so on days that I am less motivated I jump to the LITERARY section and read “Dear Tita Ems”. I recommend this reading exercise for anyone learning Tagalog. Do you have dialog practice tapes available? I have a “starter” set of two tapes I bought at Barnes And Noble and I listen to them while in my car commuting to and from work. I am considering purchasing a more extensive set, and if they were available from NIU I would be happy to purchase a set. Keep up the great work. Maraming Salamat Po, Jim Smith (jsmithcnc1@aol.com) Hampden, Massachusetts
Hi, I just sent a comment that I wrote in Word then "cut and pasted" to the comment section. Unfortunately, for some reason all the line breaks breaks were automatically deleted. This made my commelt look like one long run-on paragraph (It appearde to be OK when I pasted the comment.) You may want to check into this error. Salamot Po, Jim Smith
Hi again, Just sent another comment - this time without drafting it in Word. It still came through with the run-on paragraph format. Also, as you can see from my typo mistakes in the previous message, I do much better when drafting documents in Word. Jim Smith
Thank you for maintaining this site! I've done one of the tests but I wish I had time to do more! I like all the improvements you've done. Keep up the good work! vangiegirl at www.boogiezone.com
Isa akong Filipino Bilingual na guro sa San Francisco Unified School District. Mayroon kaming program para sa mga bata na nasa K-5 na hakbang sa grado. Mayroon kaming "critical mass" sa student population. Mahigit na 56% ang aming mag-aaaral na Pilipino, ngunit 6 na klase lang ang aming hawak. Maganda sana sa kinabukasan ng aming mag-aaral na mga Pilipino-Americans na pumasok sila sa Filipino Bilingual Program, ngunit 20% ng Pilipino American na mag-aaral ay nasa English only. Kaya, ito, nais ko lang malaman ninyo na taga midwest USA, na sa west coast, sa San Francisco, sa public school dito ay may programang Filipino Bulingual Program para sa K-1 na hakbang. Maari ba tayong mag-ugnayan? Anu-ano ang mga research ninyo diyan tungkol sa mga Filipino American students sa Amerika? Kailangan din namin ng mga researchers dito, kasi gusto namin talagang malaman kung gaano nakakatulong ang aming programa sa pamilyang Pilipino dito sa aming komunidad. this is such a great site... i don't exactly know how i got here, but i sure am glad i found this. i have a lot of foreign friends and they'd loved to learn tagalog. i'd recommend this site to them. i am filipino but i must say that there are a lot of slang or 'salitang kalye' words that i don't know. ang galing nitong site na ito! wala akong masabi! more power! naway maglipana ang mga tao marunong mag-tagalog sa buong mundo. galing talaga, idol! :)
This a great web site. Wanting to gain a greater understanding of my heritage since leaving the Philippines at a young age, this site is a great resource. There is only so much that can be absorbed from TV and family. Having an aunt back home in Marinduque who teaches Filipino, this site would make her proud. I have sent all my family links to it. Mabuhay to you all and God Bless.
gusto ko sana mkichat, eh di naman gumagana, madidismaya yata ako, di bale hintayin ko lang pag ok na >>palarisvalparaiso@yahoo.com
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DISCUSSION FORUM??? I AM NOT ABLE TO ACCESS IT ANYMORE? IT WAS A VALUABLE LEARNING TOOL.
Kamusta ka? Thank you for providing such a resource to our Pilipino community. I am a teacher in California and would like to go to the Philippines this summer to learn tagalog through 1:1 instruction and immersion. Can you recommend a language school and homestay setup? Thanks, Gerald Reyes geraldtreyes@yahoo.com
i encourage you to post the answers to these questions about pronunciation into your great website about Tagalog: * how is mga exactly pronounced ? a filipino told me it was "manga"; and ng? "nang"? * is there any rule of thumb to know where the stress go in which syllables? * I have heard in some of the dialogues of your great website somthing like "aho" instead of "ako" like "ajo" in spanish (a strong h, fricative). is it just my imagination? Thank You Very Much
Some important facts about the Philippines' history should be included to make the site more interesting. Can you also please include the major festivals like the "Sinulog" of Cebu. This is perhaps the most popular cultural parade in the country but no information has been posted.
Wala ba kayong philipine orthography history????????
BAKIT WALA UN IBIG SABIHIN NG SYLLABLES NA" CHEERS"NA RELATED ON NATIONAL SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM.
I really like your website! This is going to be very helpful for my Canadian husband and my daughter who are both willing to learn our language. My only comment is about your guestbook, the recent comment or suggestion should be on the top of this page not the bottom. I have to scroll down in order for me to read the recent one. But, other than that... THIS IS EXCELLENT!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! MABUHAY! NELL ROSS Toronto, Canada
Bakit nagiging Filipino and dati nating wika na Pilipino
Napakagandang pagtatangka na mabuksan ang pinto ng ating pambansang wika sa daigdig. Binabati ko ang mga nagsagawa ng pahinang ito sa kanilang pagsisikap na maiangat at mapagyaman ang wikang ang Filipino.
hello...I am a Canadian guy, who is married to a lovely Pinay lady!!...Thank-you so much for making this site!! I have learned so much here from this site, and I still look forward to continue my quest to "Learn Tagalog". I have visited the Philippines once already and I loved everything about it!..The only regret I had was that I wished I could have communicated more with the people there. Thanks to your site I am preparing myself for our next visit there!! Maraming salamat! Gusto ko nag-aaral ng Tagalog. Marunong ako ng konti ngayon!
Mabuhay, Just to let you know, I just finished a Palm OS freeware application called "T-Verbs" that is designed to help beginners organize verbs in the actor- and object-focus. It will be up on Palmgear.com after they approve it, or you can e-mail me and I'll send you the .zip file if you think anyone would be interested, or if you'd like to post it here somewhere for people to download. I don't guarantee the contents of the verb database because I'm a beginner in Tagalog, but it's editable, so those who know better could point out errors and I will correct them for the version posted here on the site, if you wish. Users can also add their own verbs. Salamat! Terry thatcher@chineseandspanish.com
Ang galing!!! Meron po ba kayong mga kasaysayan ng iba't-ibang larong pinoy? Thanks!! Paki-email naman po sa akin bmahal_16@hotmail.com... Salamat!
