(The "Ai" vowel poems)
Like many other culture, oral literature plays an important role
in Thais' daily lives. In school, teachers always use poems to help students
memorize special language rules. Below is an example of this technique. Among the 28
vowels, the "Ai" mai-muan ( ใ- )
is special. It is used with only 20 words. The two poems presented here are
what Thai children chant so that they can memorize these special words.

Glossary
Both poems have no special meanings. They are meant for children to recite
regularly,
("เล่าท่องอย่าละเลี่ยง") in order to memorize the 20
"ai-mai-muan" words so well that they
can spell the words correctly, ("ใช้ให้คงคำบังคับ"),
and not confused with other "ai's"
(ไ-,
-ัย) words. However, the 20 "ai"
words themselves have meanings as shown below.
