Article 44

"The region of the three southern border provinces remains a dangerous land with stealthy bombings and stealthy attacks on government officials and citizens.  In this most recent day, evil insurgents secretly shot an orchard owner to death, such that at 7.45 AM on the second of September police colonel Prajuab Phinitsthon (I must confess to a) not understand all of the abbreviations and b) not understand all the ranks) ... Amphor Betong, Yala, accompanied by (rank) Phirasin Krytthaaphiphat from Thantho district, along with a doctor from Thantho hospital and supporting officers together went to investigate the shooting of a policeman on the road to Baan Baaduupuute, district Baanrae, Thantho district where they found the body of Mr. Waehama Maana, age 65, a resident of Cluster 1, district Baanrae, lying dead soaked in blood beside a Honda motorcycle with the Yala license KKT 21.

"The condition of the body was that it had been shot with 3 nine mm bullets which had entered into the center of the trunk of the body.  3 shell casings that had fallen to the ground were found at the scene.  Inquiry discovered that the dead man was a fruit orchard man (who grew some kind of fruit that I don't recognize the name of).  While riding his motorcycle to check on his fruit orchard at Baan Baaduupuute he was attacked by 2 terrorists riding together on a motorcycle who shot him and escaped away.  Investigation of the dead man's past revealed that he was a man who enjoyed helping others, he was an object of love and affection on the part of the villagers.  Recently it had been common for many different officials to drop by and visit him at home.  An initial hypothesis is that the terrorists perhaps understood that Mr. Waehama was an informant and that they killed him for it."
