  1. thíi ທີ່Click to Listen ່  has several uses in Lao.  Here it is used with cardinal numbers to make ordinal numbers. 

For example,

  ໜຶ່ງ Click to Listen nŷŋ one
  ທີ່ໜຶ່ງ Click to Listen thíi nȳŋ the first
  ສອງ Click to Listen sɔ̌ɔŋ two
  ທີ່ສອງ Click to Listen thíi sɔ̌ɔŋ the second

        

  1. The traditional Lao calender and the Western calendar do not coincide.  In Lao, ເດືອນຝະຫຼັ່ງ dyan falāŋClick to Listen   refers to the western calendar.
  ເດືອນໜຶ່ງຝະຫຼັ່ງ Click to Listen dyan nȳŋ falāŋ January
  ເດືອນສອງຝະຫຼັ່ງ Click to Listen dyan sɔ̌ɔŋ falāŋ February
  ເດືອນສາມຝະຫຼັ່ງ Click to Listen dyan sāam falāŋ March
      
  1. wán  ວັນClick to Listen (day) is usually used only to refer to the days of the week: wán aathīt  ວັນອາທິດClick to Listen (Sunday).   But sometimes, it refers to another occasion, such as wán kǝ̂ǝt ວັນເກິດClick to Listen (birthday).
       
  2.    tε̄ε ແຕClick to Listen   may be used with the meaning 'only'.
  ຂ້ອຍໄປແຕ່ວັນເສົາClick to Listen khɔ̂y pay tε̄ε wán sǎw I go only on Saturdays.
  1. Note the word order when one gives a date; day, month, year.  
         
  2. sūan lâay ສົ່ວນຫຼາຍClick to Listen   has different meanings depending on word order.
  ສົ່ວນຫຼາຍຂ້ອຍເບິ່ງແຕ່ກີລາClick to Listen sūan lǎay khɔ̂y bǝ̄ŋ tε̄ε kiláa I mostly watch sports.
  ຄົນລາວສົ່ວນຫຼານກິນເຂົ້າໜຽວClick to Listen khón láaw sūan lǎay kin khǎw níaw Most Lao people eat sticky rice.
  1. Note that    síp ét ສິບເອັດClick to Listen    means '11',  hɔ̀ɔy ét ຮ້ອຍເອັດClick to Listen       means '101', phán ét ພັນເອັດClick to Listen     means '1,001'.
