  1. Distinguish between sʉ̄ʉ ຊື່   and sʉ̀ʉ ຊື້.      The mid tone as in sʉ̄ʉ ຊື່ is always level. Practice the following and pay attention to vowel length.

     

      ເຈົ້າຊື່ຫຍັງ càw sȳy ñǎŋ What is your name?
      ເຈົ້າຊື້ຫຍັງ càw sỳy ñǎŋ What are you buying?
                 
            
               
  ພໍ້ລາວ phɔ̀ɔ làaw meet him
  ພໍ່ລາວ phɔ̄ɔ làaw his father
  ເຫັນໄມ້ hěn mày see the wood
  ເຫັນໃໝ່ hěn māy see it again
  ໄພ້ນີ້ດີ phày nìi dii This card is good.
