There are students how many “people”? (How many students are there?)

-Group classifiers are used when you want to indicate a specific number of things.  You can also think of classifiers as “numeral coefficients” because they are only used with number words, not with adjectives and demonstratives. Notice there is no direct translation for classifiers.
