"Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t know you were with the liberating army before," she told him.

"I didn’t want to visit you too often at that time because I was afraid to create problems for you, since the government was pretty much controlled by the Rightists."

Phaengkham added, "You know, during the liberation, I was the women’s leader from this district."

"And what about those beautiful girls who danced nonstop? What happened to them?"

"Oh, those girls They are gone. Some of them fled the country, and some didn’t do well and became 91no good’ so the government sent them to be reeducated in Dom Nang.5 Reform wasn’t difficult at all. You see, those girls were only victims of a bad system."

"Well, that’s good," the soldier said. "Maybe now they’ll be an asset to society."

He and Phaengkham continued their conversation with much friendliness and understanding. To him, she was the most beautiful woman, a person he admired and respected. And that was the most beautiful part of it all.
