Gender Family

The shape of the Gender instruments is different from the Saron instruments. Unlike the Saron instruments' metal bars which are rested over a common trough resonator and are pined on to the wooden resonator, each metal bars of the Gender instruments is suspended over an individual tuned tubes resonator.  The resonators are usually made of bamboo. These resonators and metal bars are supported by a wooden frame.

Like the Saron, the mallets of the Gender instruments is made of wood.  However, the head of the mallet is in disc shape and is covered by a thick ring of felt.

There are two main types of Gender instruments:
