Situated along the Mekong River in northern Lao P.D.R., Luang Prabang is one of Asia's most pristine ancient capitals.  Recognized for its unique cultural and natural heritage, Luang Prabang was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1995.

First impressions of Luang Prabang often include gentle sights, sounds, and scents interwoven to create an intensely enchanting experience.  The throbbing rhythm of monastic drums intermingled with the fragrant scent of frangipani blossoms, the soft blur of saffron robed monks collecting their morning alms, and the architectural elegance of the many monasteries bathed in late afternoon light are just a few of the everyday experiences to be enjoyed in this ancient capital.  Although these and many other sensory delights alone are worth a visit to Luang Prabang, it is only when one explores beneath the surface into the mythology, history, and architectural and ceremonial legacy that one can truly understand and appreciate the harmonious relationships that have shaped Luang Prabang's unique cultural heritage.
