Contents During the past decade, efforts have been made to preserve the unique cultural and architectural attributes of the pristine ancient capital of Luang Prabang for current and future generations to enjoy and appreciate. Measures have been underway to protect and conserve both the city's traditional architecture and natural landscape as a foundation to uphold the essence of the personality and historical authenticity of this World Heritage Site. Furthermore, the many traditions practiced by local residents continue to add significantly to the genuine charm and spiritual ambience of this ancient capital. Whether visitors come to experience one of the many colorful festivals or to enjoy the idyllic natural environment and its symbiotic relationship with a rich cultural legacy, heritage tourism can be explored in an authentic and meaningful way. This publication adds to the growing body of work published to provide visitors with an insight into the cultural and historical legacy of Luang Prabang, and we hope our efforts will enhance your understanding and appreciation of Lao culture and history. In an effort to honor the local people in their quest to conserve Luang Prabang's architectural, cultural, and environmental legacy, we request your assistance in the responsible enjoyment and appreciation of this ancient capital.
