It was fifteen leagues	ได้ห้าสิบโยชน์โดยกําหนด
Till they came to Mount Hemtiran.	ถึงเหมติรันบรรพต
It jutted out to the sky.	ปรากฏเงื้อมงํ้าอัมพร
Hanuman led the soldiers	หนุมานจึ่งนําพลเดิน
Up onto the shoulder of the mountain.	ขึ้นไปบนเนินสิงขร
When the sun's rays were gone,	พอสิ้นรังสีรวีวร
The monkeys travelled by moonlight.	วานรตามแสงกุณฑลมา  ฯ
	ฯ  ๘  คํา  ฯ  รุกร้น
67.    They walk till they reached the mountain.	๖๗. เดินไปจนถึงคีรี
They reached the entrance of a cave.	ก็ถึงที่ปากถํ้าคูหา
The three officers had he soldiers stop	สามนายให้หยุดโยธา
They didn't know where to go.	ไม่รู้ว่าจะไปแห่งใด  ฯ
	ฯ  ๒  คํา  ฯ
68.    Then	๖๘. บัดนั้น
The monkey trops, large and small,	พวกพลวานรน้อยใหญ่
Each one was curious.	ต่างคิดฉงนสนเท่ห์ใจ
They looked up towards the sky.	แลไปบนพื้นอัมพร
They saw the stars and the moon scattered in the sky.	เห็นดวงดาวเดือนเกลื่อนกลาด
They were shining	รัศมีโอภาสประภัสสร
It was as if they could reach them with their hands.	ดั่งหนึ่งจะเอื้อมถึงกร
The wind blew softly and continuously.	พระพายพัดอ่อนเรื่อยมา
Dew fell, touching their bodies.	นํ้าค้างตกต้องอินทรีย์
The monkeys were cold, every one of them.	กระบี่เยือกเย็นถ้วนหน้า
Some of them broke wood and started a fire.	บ้างหักไม้สีไฟเป็นโกลา
They all warmed their bodies by the fire.	กองผิงกายาวุ่นไป  ฯ
	ฯ  ๖  คํา  ฯ
69.    Then	๖๙. บัดนั้น
Hanuman, the great soldier,	คําแหงหนุมานทหารใหญ่
Said to Indra's grandson	จึ่งว่าแก่หลานหัสนัยน์
Chompupan, of loyal heart,	ชมพูพานผู้ใจภักดี
"Now Naray the Avatar	ปางนี้นารายณ์อวตาร
Will descend and destroy the Giant.	ลงมาสังหารยักษี
He has sent us to attend upon the Queen	ใช้เราไปเฝ้าพระเทวี
In the City of Lanka.	ยังที่ลงกาพระนคร
No matter how difficult it may be, we must go	ถึงยากลําบากก็จําไป
To meet the Queen, Light of Love.	ให้พบอัครเรศดวงสมร
We are determined to serve the Four-handed One	ตั้งใจอาสาพระสี่กร
Without worrying about our lives.	อย่าอาวรแก่ชีพชีวา
Though we die, we will maintain our honor,	ถึงมาตรตัวตายจะไว้ยศ
So that it will appear like that of the royal bird	ให้ปรากฏดั่งราชปักษา
Who is called Sadayu the Honorable.	อันชื่อสดายุผู้ศักดา
The bird fought and lost his life.	สกุณาสู้เสียชีวัน
We should do the same because we are soldiers	จึ่งควรด้วยเราเป็นทหาร
Of the Avatar of Visnu.	องค์พระอวตารรังสรรค์
Our good deeds will be eternal	ความดีจะอยู่ชั่วกัลป์
Till the end if the sun and the moon."	จนสิ้นสุริยันจันทรา  ฯ
	ฯ  ๑๐  คํา  ฯ
70.    Then	๗๐. บัดนั้น
As for Samati the bird,	ฝ่ายสัมพาทีปักษา
Who was cursed by the God of the Sun,	ซึ่งต้องสาปองค์พระสุริยา
He was in the mountain cave.	อยู่ในคูหาคีรี
He heard the speech and the commotion	ได้ยินเสียงพูดกันอึงอื้อ
And the mention of the name of Sadayu the Bird.	ออกชื่อสดายุปักษี
They said he was dead.	ว่าสุดสิ้นชีพชีวี
He was shocked.	มีความตระหนกตกใจ
I shall go inquire about this,	ตัวกูจะไปถามดู
To find out the truth."	ให้รู้เท็จจริงเป็นไฉน
Having thought this, he hurried out	คิดแล้วก็รีบออกไป
From the sparkling jeweled cave.	จากในถํ้าแก้วแพรวพรรณ  ฯ
	ฯ ๖  คํา  ฯ
71.    The noise of feet treading on stone	๗๑. เสียงเท้าที่เหยียบศีลา
Sounded like thunder exploding.	สําเนียงดั่งฟ้าคะนองลั่น
It resounded throughout the forest	กึกก้องทั่วท้องอารัญ
As if the mountain were collapsing.	เพียงบรรพตนั้นจะแหลกลาน  ฯ
	ฯ  ๒  คํา  ฯ  คุกพาทย์
72.    Then	๗๒. บัดนั้น
The leaders of the monkey squadrons	วานรนายหมวดทหาร
Together with the common soldiers	สิ้นทั้งไพร่พลบริวาร
Heard the agitated noises.	ได้ยินเสียงสะท้านสะเทือนมา
They were filled with fear	ตระหนกตกใจไม่มีขวัญ
And shook as if it were the end of their lives.	ตัวสั่นเพียงสิ้นสังขาร์
The men ran around in an uproar.	วิ่งแยกแตกกันเป็นโกลา
They didn't know what was happening.	ไม่รู้ว่าเหตุผลประการใด  ฯ
	ฯ  ๔  คํา  ฯ
73.    Some jumped, some leaped, some crawled.	๗๓. บ้างโลดบ้างโผนโจนคลาน
Some climbed tall trees.	บ้างปีนทะยานขึ้นไม้ใหญ่
They hid behind rocks in confusion.	แอบชะง่อนหินผาวุ่นไป
They were going out of their minds.	ไม่เป็นอารมณ์สมประดี
Only the three skilled soldiers	ยังแต่สามทหารชาญณรงค์
Stood bravely and didn't run off.	อาจองยืนอยู่ไม่หลีกหนี
Each one swung his knife and trident.	ต่างแกว่งพระขรรค์แกว่งตรี
They waited to fight fiercely.	คอยทีต่อกรรอนราญ  ฯ
	ฯ  ๔  คํา  ฯ
74.    Then	๗๔. บัดนั้น
Sampati the Brave	พระยาสัมพาทีใจหาญ
When he came to the mount of Surakan Cave	ครั้นถึงปากถํ้าสุรกานต์
Stood bravely looking around.	ยืนทะยานเหลือบแลแปรไป
He looked left and right.	พินิจพิศเพ่งซ้ายขวา
He didn't see anyone coming or going.	จะเห็นใครไปมาก็หาไม่
It made him curious.	ให้คิดฉงนสนเทห์ใจ
"How has it come to be like this?"	เหตุใดมาเป็นดั่งนี้
When he saw the three monkeys	พอแลเห็นสามวานร
Standing at the edge of the rocks	ยืนอยู่ริมชะง่อนคีรีศรี
He was very happy.	แสนโสมนัสยินดี
So he asked,	จึ่งมีวาจาถามไป
"This royal bird Sadayu,	อันสดายุราชปักษา
What danger befell him	เกิดเหตุภัยมาเป็นไฉน
So that you said he was dead?	ท่านจึ่งว่าสิ้นชีวาลัย
Who dared to kill him?"	คือใครองอาจรอนราญ  ฯ
	ฯ  ๘  คํา  ฯ
75.    Then	๗๕. บัดนั้น
The Son of the Wind, the brave hearted one,	วายุบุตรวุฒิไกรใจหาญ
Listened and gave an answer.	ได้ฟังจึ่งตอบพจมาน
"Once upon a time, the Avatar, who has four hands,	เดิมพระอวตารสี่กร
Performed rites at Kota	สร้างพรตอยู่ยังโคทา
With Laksmana and Lady Sita, the Lovable.	กับพระลักษณ์นางสีดาดวงสมร
He lived the life of a forest ascetic.	โดยเพศชีป่าพนาดร
He made merit.	ถาวรจําเริญสวัสดี
Totsapak thought of a plan	ทศพักตรมันคิดอุบาย
To have Marit the giant, the younger brother of his mother,	ให้มารีศน้าชายยักษี
Change his body into a deer	นิมิตกายกลายเป็นมฤคี
To go fool the goddess Lady Sita.	ไปลวงเทวีนางสีดา
The two would go after the deer.	สององค์เสด็จไปตามกวาง
Totsakan would steal the lady and go of into the air.	มันลักนางไปโดยเวหา
Sadayu came and confronted the demon.	สดายุมาพบอสุรา
He fought against the power of the demon.	เข้าต่อฤทธากุมภัณฑ์
Totsapak didn't have any troops left.	ทศพักตรสุดสิ้นพวกพล
The bird began to show of, deluding himself as to his power.	ปักษีอวดตนด้วยโมหันธ์
The Giant feared it was the end of his life.	ขุนยักษ์กลัวสิ้นชีวัน
He removed the lady's ring	ถอดแหวนนางกัลยาณี
Which belonged to Naray.	ซึ่งเป็นเครื่องทรงพระนารายณ์
Hw threw it and hit the body of the bird.	ขว้างมาต้องกายปํกษี
His wings broke and he fell down to earth.	ปีกหักตกลงปัถพี
He wasn't dead yet.	ชีวียังไม่มรณา
Only after he met Naray	ต่อได้พบองค์พระทรงศิลป์
He gave back the ring and died.	ถวายแหวนแล้วสิ้นสังขาร์
Rama has employed me to come now	บัดนี้ตรัสใช้ให้เรามา
To find out news of Sita in the city of the devils."	สืบข่าวกัลยายังเมืองมาร   ฯ

Sampati the Brave Hearted	จึ่งสัมพาทีใจหาญ
Listened to the on of the Wind explain the situation	ฟังวายุบุตรแจ้งการ
About his brother's death, and he was sad.	ว่าน้องวายปราณก็โศกี
"Oh Sadayu,	โอ้ว่าสดายุเอ๋ย
You were a friend to your brother in time of troble.	เจ้าเคยเป็นเพื่อนยากพี่
Your strength was of no use.	เสียแรงซึ่งมีฤทธี
You were careless in fighting your opponent.	ต่อตีข้าศึกประมาทใจ
You let the demons fool you	ให้อ้ายอสุรโมหันธ์
And kill you.	สังหารชีวันเสียได้
Alas, Center of My Life,	นิจจาเอ๋ยเจ้าดวงชีวาลัย
You shouldn't have fled to the heavens.	ควรฤาหนีไปเมืองฟ้า
It is not fitting that I should live.	ตัวพี่จะอยู่ไม่ต้องการ
It would be better for me to die too."	จะวายปราณตามไปดีกว่า
He moaned and was very sad	รํ่าพลางแสนโศกโศกา
As if he were going to die.	สกุณาเพียงสิ้นชีวัน  ฯ
	ฯ  ๘  คํา  ฯ
77.    Then	๗๗. บัดนั้น
Powerful Hanuman	หนุมานฤทธิแรงแข็งขัน
Saw the bird crying,	เห็นปักษาโศกาจาบัลย์
Grieving as if he were losing consciousness.	รําพันเพียงสิ้นสมประดี
He felt pity and compassion.	ให้คิดเมตตาอาวรณ์
So, he said, "Listen, bird,	จึ่งว่าดูก่อนปักษี
That's the way it happens in this world.	ธรรมดาเกิดมาในโลกีย์
No one escapes death.	ไม่มีใครพ้นความตาย
Even though Mount Meru	ถึงมาตรพระเมรุภูผา
Is the foundation of all the worlds	เป็นหลักโลกาทั้งหลาย
It also faces dissolution	ก็ย่อมรู้วินาศวอดวาย
And danger through the Cataclysmic Fire.	อันตรายด้วยไฟบรรลัยกัลป์
Even if you grieve so much	แม้นท่านจะแสนโศกี
That you die,	ไปกว่าชีวีจะอาสัญ
Sadayu	ใช่ว่าสดายุนั้น
Will not be restored to life.	จะคืนชีวันเป็นมา
Please control your unhappiness.	จงระงับดับเสียซึ่งวิโยค
Don't be so unhappy, O bird.	อย่าแสนโศกนักเลยนะปักษา
I want to know something.	เราสงสัยใคร่แจ้งกิจจา
What is your name, bird?	สกุณามีนามกรใด
Why are your features missing from your whole body?	จึ่งขนหลุดสิ้นทั้งอินทรีย์
Why is it like that?	เหตุผลนั้นมีเป็นไฉน
It makes me curious	ให้คิดฉงนสนเท่ห์ใจ
Because I've never seen anything like it before."	ด้วยไม่เคยเห็นแต่ปางบรรพ์  ฯ
	ฯ  ๑๒  คํา  ฯ
78.    Then	๗๘. บัดนั้น
Sampati the powerful	สัมพาทีฤทธิแรงแข็งขัน
Listened to the Son of the Wind	ฟังลูกพระพายเทวัญ
Speaking mercifully to him.	รําพันว่ากล่าวด้วยเมตตา
He regained his senses, and extinguished his sorrow	ก็คืนได้สมประดีดับโศก
And his Grief.	ซึ่งวิโยคเศร้าโทมนัสสา
So he spoke beautiful words.	จึ่งกล่าวสุนทรวาจา
"My name is Sampati.	ตัวเราชื่อว่าสัมพาที
I was the loving elder brother	ได้เป็นพี่ชายสายสวาท
Of Sadayu, the royal bird	กับสดายุราชปักษี
Who stood at the top of Mount Asakan.	อยู่ยอดเขาอัสสกัณณ์คีรี
This bird was young and naive.	สกุณียังเยาว์ไม่รู้ความ
One day he saw the sun.	วันหนึ่งเห็นดวงทินกร
It's rays illuminated the three worlds.	เขจรส่องทวีปทั้งสาม
At dawn it was beautiful and red.	แรกอุทัยไขแสงแดงงาม
He thought it was a ripe fruit and wanted to eat it.	ว่าลูกไม้สุกห่ามจะใคร่กิน
He begged me. I forbade him, but he didn't listen.	วอนเราเราห้ามก็ไม่ฟัง
He flew with the power of a bird.	บินด้วยกําลังปักษิน
He wanted to grab the sun's chariot with his beak.	จะจับจิกรถแก้วโกมิน
The sun was angry.	ทินกรกริ้วโกรธโกรธา
Hot rays issued forth like the Cataclysmic Fire.	เปล่งแสงแรงร้อนดั่งเพลิงกาล
I leaped up to protect the little one,	เราทะยานไปป้องกนิษฐา
So my features fell off my entire body.	ขนจึ่งลุ่ยหลุดทั้งกายา
And furthermore, the sun placed a curse on me	พระอาทิตย์ก็ซํ้าสาปไว้
To stay in Hemiran Cave.	ให้อยู่ถํ้าเหมติรัน
My features were not to grow back	ขนนั้นอย่างอกขึ้นได้
Untill the soldier of glorious Naray	ต่อทหารพระนารายณ์เรืองชัย
Leading the monkey troops	คุมกระบี่ไพร่พลากร
Crosses to the Island of Lanka	จะข้ามไปทวีปลงกา
And he gives the ring to Sita, the loved one.	ถวายแหวนสีดาดวงสมร
He will stop to spend the night.	มาหยุดสํานักแรมร้อน
Let the monkeys shout three times.	ให้วานรโห่ขึ้นสามที
Then my features will sprout forth again."	ขนนั้นจึ่งกลับงอกงาม
Then he explained about the city of giants.	แล้วแจ้งความบอกเมืองยักษี
"Please be merciful.	ตัวท่านจงได้ปรานี
I will show you the way to go."	เราจะชี้มรคาให้ไป  ฯ
	ฯ  ๑๘  คํา  ฯ  เจรจา
79.   Then	๗๙. บัดนั้น
Brave Hanuman, the great soldier,	คําแหงหนุมานทหารใหญ่
Listened to the bird and was happy.	ได้ฟังปักษีก็ดีใจ
Then he spoke courteously.	จึ่งปราศรัยด้วยรสวาจา
"I am a soldier of the Four-handed One.	เราเป็นทหารพระสี่กร
I will relieve your troubles, bird."	จะช่วยร้อนพระยาปักษา
Having said this, he called the troops.	ว่าแล้วก็เรียกโยธา
There was an uproar all over the mountain.	เสียงก้องโกลาทั้งคีรี  ฯ
	ฯ  ๔  คํา  ฯ
80.    Then	๘๐.บัดนั้น
The leaders of the monkey troops,	นายหมวดนายกองกระบี่ศรี
As well as the soldiers,	ทั้งพวกพหลโยธี
Heard Hanuman the monkey	ได้ยินกระบี่หนุมาน
Shout out.	ร้องเรียกอื้ออึงกุลาหล
Each one responded to the call.	ต่างตนต่างรับต่างขาน
So they came out from the alleys and valleys and streams.	ก็ออกจากซอกห้วยเหวธาร
They came running back in confusion.	วิ่งวุ่นอลหม่านกลับมา  ฯ
	ฯ  ๔  คํา  ฯ  เชิด
81.    When they came to the mouth of the mountain cave	๘๑. ครั้นถึงปากถํ้าคีรี
They saw the bird Sampati.	เห็นสัมพาทีปักษา
He had no features on his body.	ขนหลุดสิ้นทั้งกายา
The monkeys questioned each other in confusion.	วานรถามกันวุ่นไป  ฯ
	ฯ  ๒  คํา  ฯ  เจรจา
82.    Then	๘๒. บัดนั้น
Hanuman the Courteous	หนุมานผู้มีอัชฌาสัย
Said to all the brave soldiers,	จึ่งบอกไพร่พลสกลไกร
"According to the bird's story	ตามในเหตุผลสกุณี
All of you must help	ตัวท่านทั้งหลายจงช่วยกัน
All of the monkey soldiers	ทั้งพวกพลขันธ์กระบี่ศรี
Must shout out three times.	โห่ขึ้นให้ได้สามที
Then the bird will be released from his suffering."	นกนี้จะพ้นเวทนา  ฯ
	ฯ  ๔  คํา  ฯ
83.    Then	๘๓. บัดนั้น
All the monkey soldiers	โยธาวานรทั่วหน้า
Listened and were glad.	ได้ฟังยินดีปรีดา
They shouted out till it reached heaven.	ก็โห่สนั่นลั่นฟ้าสุธาธาร  ฯ
	ฯ  ๒  คํา  ฯ
84.    Then	๘๔. บัดนั้น
Sampati, of brave heart,	พระยาสัมพาทีใจหาญ
When he heard the noise of the Avatar's troops,	ได้ยินเสียงพลพระอวตาร
So loud that it shook the forest,	โห่สะท้านสะเทือนพนาดร
His features sprouted forth abundantly.	ขนนั้นงอกงามขึ้นมา
They covered his body as before.	เต็มทั่วกายาดั่งก่อน
They alternated in different colors, shiny and beautiful.	สลับสีเลื่อมลายอรชร
It was the end of the sun's curse.  He was happy.	สิ้นสาปทินกรก็ยินดี
He moved his tail, spread his wings, and moved around.	กระหยับหางกางปีกกวัดแกว่ง
He meant to try out his bird-like powers.	หมายจะลองแรงปักษี
He pushed off, and hovered with his magical powers	ถีบถาราร่อนด้วยฤทธี
Up to the sky.	ยังที่พ่างพื้นโพยมบน  ฯ
	ฯ  ๖  คํา  ฯ  คุกพาทย์
85.    The noise of his wings was like a cataclysmic wind.	๘๕. เสียงปีกปานลมบรรลัยกัลป์
There was an uproar of shaking, sliding, and bursting.	สะเทือนเลื่อนลั่นกุลาหล
The rays of the sun were blocked out.	เป็นพยับอับแสงสุริยน
Then he returned to the monkey soldiers.	แล้วกลับมายังพลวานร  ฯ
	ฯ  ๒  คํา  ฯ  แผละ
86.    Then	๘๖. บัดนั้น
Skillful Hanuman	คําแหงหนุมานชาญสมร
Spoke eloquently.	จึ่งกล่าววาจาอันสุนทร
"Look bird,	ดูก่อนพระยาสกุณี
Your curse is finished and so is your suffering.	ตัวท่านสิ้นสาปสิ้นทุกข์
You'll have only happiness from now on.	จะมีแต่สิ่งสุขเกษมศรี
Your features have sprouted beautifully, all over your body.	ขนนั้นงอกงามทั้งอินทรีย์
Now, point out the way to Lanka."	จงชี้หนทางลงกา  ฯ
	ฯ  ๔  คํา  ฯ
87.    Then	๘๗. บัดนั้น
Sampati the Bird	พระยาสัมพาทีปักษา
Listened and said,	ได้ฟังจึ่งกล่าววาจา
"Look monkey chief,	ดูก่อนพระยาพานริน
This City of Lanka	อันทวีปลงการาชฐาน
Is in the middle of the water.	อยู่กลางชลธารกระแสสินธุ์
Only someone who knows how to fly	ต่อใครรู้เหาะรู้บิน
Can go to the land of the demons.	จึ่งไปถึงแดนดินอสุรี
It is beyond the power of the eye	แลดูสุดสายนัยเนตร
To see the path.	สังเกตุไม่ได้วิถี
So get on my back.	จงขึ้นบนหลังของเรานี้
I will fly over and point out the city of the giants."	จะพาบินไปชี้เมืองมาร  ฯ
	ฯ  ๖  คํา  ฯ
88.    Then	๘๘. บัดนั้น
The Son of the Wind, of brave heart,	วายุบุตรวุฒิไกรใจหาญ
With Chompupan	ทั้งกระบี่ศรีชมพูพาน
And Onkot, who was the granson of Indra,	องคตผู้หลานอัมรินทร์
Were happy. They invited each other	ยินดีก็ชวนกันขึ้นนั่ง
To sit on the bird's back.	บนหลังพระยาปักษิน
They mounted the bird, like Siva riding his owl.	ดั่งพระกาลทรงนกแสกบิน
They were off to kill the demons.	จะไปกินชีวิตอสุรา  ฯ
	ฯ  ๔  คํา  ฯ
89.    Then	๘๙. บัดนั้น
Sampati the Brave	พระยาสัมพาทีตัวกล้า
Was happy when the monkeys got on his back.	ครั้นวานรขึ้นหลังก็ปรีดา
He shoved off from the top of the mountain.	บาทาถีบยอดคีรี
The mountain was destroyed	เขานั้นก็แตกแยกพัง
By the bird's power.	ด้วยกําลังฤทธิ์ราชปักษี
There was a great noise throughout the world.	ครื้นครั่นสนั่นทั้งธาตรี
The bird flew off into the sky.	สกุณีบินขึ้นคัคนานต์  ฯ
	ฯ  ๔  คํา  ฯ
90.    When they came to Mount Kanta	๙๐. ครั้นถึงเขาคันธสิงขร
He hovered and pointed out the city.	ก็ราร่อนชี้บอกราชฐาน
"Over there is Lanka, city of the demons.	โน่นแน่ลงกากรุงมาร
It sticks out from the middle of the ocean	เป็นประธานในกลางสมุทรไท
Like a little floating plant.	ดั่งหนึ่งจอกน้อยลอยอยู่
One can hardly see it.	แลดูหาใคร่เห็นไม่
In the center of the city	ท่ามกลางนิเวศน์เวียงชัย
There is a large mountain	มีเขาหนึ่งใหญ่มหึมา
It is the foundation of Lanka, island of the demons.	เป็นหลักลงกาทวีปอสุริน
It is called Nila Kala Mountain.	ชื่อนิลกาลาภูผา
Keep this image firmly in your eye. Memorize it.	ท่านจงสําคัญให้มั่นตา
That's Lanka."	นั้นคือลงกาธานี  ฯ
	ฯ  ๖  คํา  ฯ
91.    Then	๙๑. บัดนั้น
The Son of the Wind, the brave one,	วายุบุตรวุฒิไกรชัยศรี
Onkot, the Son of Pali,	องคตลูกพระยาพาลี
And Chompupan, the monkey officer,	ทั้งขุนกระบี่ชมพูพาน
Each one looked without blinking.	ต่างพินิจพิศดูไม่พริบเนตร
They looked at the City of Lanka.	สังเกตลงการาชฐาน
They saw it all clearly.	เห็นแจ้งประจักษ์ทุกประการ
The three soldiers memorized it.	สามทหารสําคัญมั่นใจ
So they said, "Look bird.	จึ่งว่าดูก่อนสกุณา
